It was an incident. And no... an F-16 Falcon fighter group thought it was being shot at, radioed in to the control tower and they said not to drop the bombs. But the planes usually defend themselves if the situation requires, and a 500 pound bomb or two were dropped.

How the heck did he think canadiens looking for night-vision googles were shooting at him while he was in an airplane? Isnt technology... and SIGHT better than that?

No. You are mixing up what happened. They were conducting live fire exercises with live ammuntion and the pilot was probably not informed about it. Donald Rumsfeld went over this at http://www.defenselink.mil in the briefings several times, which I listen to.

Nice to see that the American media really cares about our soldiers who died at the hands of theirs. Really, we appreciate all 10 seconds of coverage on CNN Headline (We're #2!) News.
American propaganda : Gotta love it.

Well Rumsfeld talks for about 10 minutes in his briefings on the accident... he was upset that happened according to what he said...

Well of course you have to go to the Pentagon website (link I provided earlier) for his briefings and strangly enough I never see them air on CNN. ;)

Yeah because the USA doesn't give TWO SH!TS about our dead. They only piss and whine if they get hurt themselves. They can kill anyone and not give a damn.

Sadly enough, this was the first I've even heard of it.

I'm sick of everyone whining about them; we'll never hear the end of it.

Actually, stuff that is a lot worse has happened. Like millions upon millions being slaughtered in Africa...
Oh right, I forgot, a thousand dead Americans is worth mmore than a million dead Africans

Well this is sad. I think we have trigger happy pilot that are overly anxious. Seriously man, our planes can fly faster than the bullets. So if they were told not to fire back, was there really a reason to drop the bombs??

Nope none at all. Besides whats a 5.56mm bullet going to do against a F-16??

While it may not be the greatest anthem, you should be proud to live in a free democratic society, and by singing the anthem you honour those who have died fighting for this freedom.

That is not true. They were conducting a live fire exercise.
And Toefur, Afghanistan is a better place now that the taliban can go to hell. Girls can go to school and there is more money heading into the country.
If the US didn't do anything there could of been a million dead Afghanis, dead from starvation. And the taliban and al qaeda used civilians as human shields in many cases.
Edit: Sorry for the dumb typos, I typed that message before I had my daily cup of coffee.

Actually they were told they could drop bombs, as long as they thought the target was a real threat (they had to be as certain as possible), and because the Canadians were doing live fire training (as Giancarlo said), the F-16's thought they were being attacked and alas dropped the bombs, it wasn't until they arrived back to where they were stationed they realised that they had killed the Canadians.

Sorry, I typed that message before having my daily cup of coffee... it should be so the Taliban can go to hell. It was early so I appreciate that you don't make a big deal out of an obvious miswording, well as you hate me you are going to... but I could care less.
Actually they were told they could drop bombs,
No they said they could not. But there is a policy in the US airforce and that is airforce pilots could act on their own if they feel their aircraft are being endangered, and one pilot overreacted this time.

Darn!!!!! For a moment there I thought you had some feelings!
But whatever! I think it is a step in the right direction that women can show their faces, go to school, get a career! :)

STFU Jan! How dare you attack member so blatantly? Are you totally rebutted woman? :devious2:

Yes it is a start jan. Infact 50% of State workers (Teachers/Doctors) before 1994 were women in Afghanistan.

Meow it is rebuttal, which means:
The giving of evidence on the part of a plaintiff to destroy the effect of evidence introduced by the defendant in the same suit.
(Well that is the meaning in law, but it is also used in politics)
Please don't make me look bad by screwing up the word.

I know what it means GC, but thank you very much for your kindness even if I think that when used as a verb, even if jokingly, the correct form in this case is "rebutted". Don't you think "are you totally rebuttal" would sound funny?

I said I was asking for a rebuttal. Not for a rebutted. Now which makes sense in the form I was using? I was asking for a rebuttal or rebutted?
You my friend needs to review your english a bit more.
