View Full Version : website host with file manager and loads of space

I'm looking for a new host for my website because I'm fed up with my current host, Fortunecity. Preferably as much disk space as possible would be helpful, as I intend to cover a wide variety of areas like jokes, forums, website tools, online games etc etc. I prefer to use a file manager similar to fortunecity's too.
Any suggestions?
Why I don't want geocities or fortunecity:
Fortunecity is really slow and I get a lot of things going wrong like errors when I make new html files. I have a bit of a problem with subdomain addresses too.
Geocities is quite good really, nice looking interface but those java style ads in the top right corner make my site feel a bit too mediocre for my liking.
That reminds me, which websites allow redirection sites like -------- and which sites allow advertising too? These terms of service documents are too boring and vague for little me...
Thanks

I recommend Worldzone (http://www.worldzone.net ). It provides 50MB, puts banners at the bottom of pages and allows advertising. Its very fast... :)

Worldzone cut its space offering in half? What's the matter, Webdude? Did you turn chicken!?

Crracker - are you crackers? Before calling other webhosts chickens go start your own and offer all the features you can think of for free. Worldzone provides an excellent service and maybe reducing the space is what they need todo to make profit so nimrod go play games with cars on the nearest highway or grow up.

I would say http://www.tripod.com would be good for you. 50MBs, FAST, ftp, file manager, FP support, a [mythical] "working cgi-bin".

Is it just me or is PSend really slow?

And why does http://www.sphosting.com have a popup ad open as soon as I visit them when the first thing they say about themselves is that they are ad free???

So they can keep their members' pages ad free, that's why.

What's the matter, Chicken? Chicken lover!? Hmmm, that reminds me of a South Park episode. :) Hey, you know I'm just messing with you.
By the way, where is Webdude anyway?

99% of all FWPs have some form of ad on their pages, duh, that's how they're making money to provide free space for their members, banner or bannerless.

LOL...Good thread (-:
Err, the 50 megs deal...**looks around to make sure no-one can see or hear and quietly whispers "Though we claim to now only give 50 megs, it's still 100 megs. Had to make it look like I cut it to 50 to satisfy my Board of Directors."**.......thats a secret, so dont tell anyone...
And puh-leeease, quit trying to make Chicken look better by associating my name with his..hehe..despite the myth, we all know he never actually made it across the road (-:

Yeah, I doubt most sites that are uploaded with a file manager get anywhere near that 50 MB mark.

Mine did, when it was on Crosswinds. I ditched them when my site got up to 75.2 mb.

Uploading a 75meg site on a File Manager is just sad.

Actually, my site gradually got that big. When it first started out 3.5 months ago, it was a mere 8 mb. However, during the three months it was on Crosswinds, it had gradually grown from 8 mb to 75 mb. Currently, it is up to 93 mb; just click on the link in my "sig" and my site statistics are right there on the cover page (I have the cover page there in case someone else is trying to load my website inside his/her site's frameset; if it is inside someone else's frameset, clicking on the 'Enter' link will cause my site to come up full screen, with the Nbci bar of course)

If you want a good webhost with a filemanager, I suggest 8op.com (http://www.8op.com). They're back and I've always
liked 'em. 20MB space, but they'll tack more on if you ask.
For redirection, use leet.as (http://leet.as)

Is it me or is that redirection URL sound a bit hacker-ish
Hellbound

Yeah it does...it's a good service nonetheless. You can tweak the url to be like http://your.not.leet.as/me and stuff. I use it and I think hackers are morons.

Leet.as has ads. That's bad. I'd rather use a service such as -------- as they have no advertisements.

True, but you can select button as your ad type, and never put it on.
I don't like cjb because friggen EVERYONE uses them.

Yeah, but they've also been around longer than any other redirection service, which is a good sign that they won't suddenly vanish the next day and leave everyone with a URL that doesn't work. I like that in a redirection service.

I don't like cjb because friggen EVERYONE uses them. I only gave cjb as an example, there are many others without ads that you can find at: http://www.redirectionguide.net

How about FTP as well? I'm beginning to find File managers quite tedious.
