Okay, I've taken some time adding content (such as it is), and I've cleaned up the graphics and load time. It is a personal website (not that makes any difference). Please let me know what you think:
http://www.fatalerror.cc
I am debating whether I should add a messageboard or a daily poll to it as well. I have a cgi-bin, I just need the code.

April 24th, 2002, 22:39
i like it, but i think u should have something on the rigt, like affiliates or something
fatalerrorrage
April 25th, 2002, 16:47
Hmm.. I don't have any affiliates.
I am still debating over the messageboard though..

Although I didn't like th content the over all design was good. The page would look really good with a colored scroll bar

I love your site; kept me entertained for quite a while. Some funny ---- there.
Oh...And I don't recommend you change anything, it's sexy the way it is.

Thank you so very much, anhedonia. That made my day!
I like your site too, by the way.
-----
Any thoughts on messageboards? I get enough traffic to the site, but do I *really* need one? I just want to see if it's worth it just to add a little interactivity to my website.

Very welcome ;).
You liked my site? Tyie :). I think it's kinda dull actually :p.

It'd be cool.... If it didn't go very well you could always remove it later. :)

It looks great, my only thought is maybe higher resolutions would have a hard time reading your menu images. Beyond that, don't change anything.
Also, I love that warning image.

I just tested my website at a resolution of 1280x1024, and the menus are still legible, but I am glad you brought that up. I brightened them up a shade just to make them more readable.
Now to learn Perl/CGI to get the messageboard up...
..once I finish my mandatory overtime at work. :confused2

connected: 56K modem. Some of us are still on dial up. Having a high-speed connection doesn't make your penis larger, folks. :biggrin2:
Love the site. Top marks

Your telling me your gonna program your own message board and you don't know scripts yet? Try installing phpBB or wbb, I reccomend those boards, I think they are the best free ones. Just edit the colors and everything however you want. It only takes a few minutes to install and is very easy

*SIGH*
I do not know Perl or CGI or PHP.
I either have to teach myself, or have someone sit down with me and explain it in PLAIN ENGLISH. I'm working on it.

The site didn;t load . Is it a bit slow?
fatalerrorrage
April 29th, 2002, 16:19
I just tried my site just a few seconds ago. It's loading just fine. I guess keep trying, and if you see anything weird (like 403 forbidden or something like that), let me know.

Nice, Very nice. Now if you could get your navbar links to appear connected that would be great!
fatalerrorrage
May 3rd, 2002, 04:27
connected?
Hmmm... I am not sure what you mean.
Connected as in join them together as one graphic, right?
I will experiment with that.
Oh, and don't get sprayed by a skunk. It is a punishment I do not wish on my worst enemy.

I don't think they ought to be "connected", they look good the way they are. :smile2:

The logo and menu are very slick, as is the color scheme. Maybe the banners (warning, vegetarian) detract and overwhelm the site colors a bit, but overall very nice.

- Navigation buttons look funny on a gray background
- Anything but gray... it would look nice with a nice textured background... I dunno what color...
- Get a text rollover script for the links
- Overall a nice and clean design
- More graphics aren't necessary, you just need to rethink the background.... I am not sure what you could replace the gray with
- Nice content
Overall: 83%

Okay.. let's see. The grey is a medium grey. (#999999)
All my colors are "browser safe", so if my colors look dull, I'm working with a limited palette. Of course I shouldn't make excuses.
(but so many people use white!)
I think the textured background may take away from the text. I am for more content over graphics, so I want the content to carry the website, not fancy graphics. This is the one reason I do not use a lot of JavaScript on my webpage. I also (by choice) do not put Flash on my webpages.
The thing is that so many people disable things like JavaScript, I need to make my page where you don't need things like the current version of Flash or JavaScript enabled to see my site.
Text rollover scripts are useless to those who disable JavaScript.
I can try and please as many people as I can, but I can't please everyone. I see too many websites with flashy graphics with little or no content, so I am trying to do more content. Strong content can make up for a visually weak site, but strong graphics cannot make up for a site with no content. Of course, this is only my philosophy, yours may differ.
Of course, I'm no expert. :p
Heh.. they filtered my website from my work. I wonder why?! Maybe I aught to put up a mirror somewhere... :biggrin2:

fatalerrorrage, I LOVE YOUR SITE!
Your expressions of your opinoins are great, I really like the "rants" section, that is some crazy ----.
Great site design and colors too. Keep it up, i'm bookmarking it!
Kept me amused for a long time, and I'm still at it!
EDIT: I would put a forum in, that way people could post their own rants and raves! So much fun :D

Okay, I added the messageboard and reorganized a lot of the site.
It's also not as cynical.
Any ideas or comments are ALWAYS welcome!
Any ideas on how to promote my site and/or get more hits is appreciated.
I also want to thank all of you for all your help. I really appreciate it!

The best way I find to generate hits is...well this is what I did. I went and I spammed a few other similar sites on there forums. And then I just make sure I have cool stuff to offer. Now I automatically generate a good amount of hits every day without doing anything. Although My forum died because I keep losing my database and people stop signing up.

can you just like use http://hostultra.com they have a free forum service of unlimited bandwidth and all and the forums look great.. think they vbulletin or something anyway.. they have it up in no time nad all you have to do is go to the admin page and edit as you like. :biggrin2:

What I think is that your site is good nad all.. I don't like the colors nad how it is all scrunched up... wether it is or not it makes my eyes hurt.. make the white text for links or whatever... sorry didn't really look through the site a little darker. Your menus just don't seem to flow into your site. And you maybe could use a border or something

It would be illegal to use multiple copies of vBulletein like that not to mention why use a free forum host when you can have your own?

Well, not Illeagal if they paid for them but insanely costly to offer their service for free. They use phpBB. But I do agree it is better to host the board yourself. But somepeople don't have websites that can handle php.

If your hosting doesn't support PHP nor ASP then your site probably isn't popular in the first place and you could go with some free board host

Well, I use paid hosting that I use to run a phpBB board so I hope its not a fluke.
