I am trying to install vBulletin on my site but the install script stops and gives this message:

Parse error: parse error in /mnt/host-users/silentmaverick/vbulletin/upload/admin/config.php on line 29

Please confirm the details below:

Database server type:

Database server hostname / IP address:

Database username:

Database password:

Database name:

Technical email:

Only continue to the next step if those details are correct. If they are not, please edit your config.php file and reupload it. The next step will test database connectivity.

I have tried editing the config.php file and adding the info in but I can't seem to get it to work. How do you type the code in correctly so it recognizes the info? Thanks!

I wouldn't edit the config file. I would upload the default config file and edit it using the install script instead as its more likely to be successful.

Do what cheatpark says, and try vbulletin.com support.

Well I toyed around with the default and put in what I think is my correct info (the default didn't connect to the server and the info could be the wrong info of the server, etc). It came up with this message:
-----
Parse error: parse error in /mnt/host-users/silentmaverick/vbulletin/upload/admin/config.php on line 29

Attempting to attach to database...

Warning: Unable to access ./db_.php in /mnt/host-users/silentmaverick/vbulletin/upload/admin/install.php on line 318

Warning: Failed opening './db_.php' for inclusion (include_path='.') in /mnt/host-users/silentmaverick/vbulletin/upload/admin/install.php on line 318

Fatal error: Cannot instantiate non-existent class: db_sql_vb in /mnt/host-users/silentmaverick/vbulletin/upload/admin/install.php on line 320
-----
That's why I think I might have made a mistake in the editing. What do I need for this info (examples if possible)?

Database Server Type
Server Name
Name of database

It also asks for your username and password for the database, as well as your email address, but I feel safe in assuming those are a given.

Hi Mav,

if you're still wrestelling with the install tomorrow, gimme a shout and I'll install vbulletin for you free of charge. Of course, you would have to trust me with some passwords, but don't worry, I'm too nice to stab anybody in the back. I must have installed vbulletin more than 20 times by now for myself and some others, so I should get it to work. Decision's up to you and I do suggest to keep trying yourself, for knowledge is power ;)

Go to vbulletin.com

They are experts. They must know.

Did you upload all the files? Usually if it fails to open a file it means that the file doesn't exist.

I figured out the problem... I feel so stupid now. Such an easy solution.

Sign up for the MySQL database!
