i just remembered that i signed up for email with my domain a long time ago, is there a limit to the users on the old free acounts?

I think there is no limit to no of uses.
I have two accounts with everyone.net.
They have stoped accepting new accounts. You can still use the old one.

How do ppl get so many signups!!! Everyone seems to have 1000+ members. I only have 324 and I thought my domain was specialized for email!!!

I went with everyone.net and got over 200 members, then dumped the service because most people were just using it as spam boxes.

I would very strongly advise you to try Netmongol. I haven't purchased anything from them nor do I work for them but I have had a long email chat with its CEO and they seem to be pretty solid (financially and technically). http://www.netmongol.com
PS : They're very cheap also. Try to negociate 1 free month per year.
