:( Test Limit Exceed.

I got 971 Kbps here:
http://webservices.cnet.com/bandwidth/

guitarnerd
April 27th, 2002, 01:11
The cnet.com one is always slow because so many people use it at once and there is no limit to how many people can use it like the one at DSL reports. Try using the other server yupapa :)

Sometimes when I check it and my download is really high my upload is real low, and the other way around. Almost like I have a shared upload and download. Yeah I wish.

Robert
April 27th, 2002, 15:18
Nope. A friend of mine works for the cable co down here and got me a free modem.

guitarnerd
April 27th, 2002, 15:30
Well don't you need more than just a modem to connect with a cable connection

Robert
April 27th, 2002, 15:45
I have the cable service from the company, so I just connected the modem and it works.

whats that ?

Robert
April 27th, 2002, 16:29
Tweaking.. like making your RWIN # bigger. Think of your RWIN has a pipe, the bigger the pipe, the more water that can go through it. The larger your RWIN #, the more data can pass.

http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks/

guitarnerd
April 27th, 2002, 16:41
You can't do that with XP. Anyone know of any tweaks that will work with XP

Robert
April 27th, 2002, 16:43
Sure you can with XP. It's all based on the RWIN settings in your registry. I'm on XP.

guitarnerd
April 27th, 2002, 16:44
I guess I will try again :S
When I went to try the registry path it told me to go to wasn't therre

Robert
April 27th, 2002, 16:53
Don't edit your registery directly.

Download Dr. TCP

http://www.pcrob.net/uploads/

guitarnerd
April 27th, 2002, 16:58
Ok I got Dr. TCP now what do I edit in it to make it faster?

Robert
April 27th, 2002, 17:05
Goto www.dslreports.com/tweaks

and run the tweak test. it'll tell u what to make your RWIN # to.

Who?
April 27th, 2002, 19:29
mine sucks:(

1490kbps down | 77kbps up

what AT&T says i should get

1500kbps down | 128kbps up

guitarnerd
April 27th, 2002, 20:12
Direct tv DSL says I should get the same yet I am connected at 1.2mbits and 166kbps up so don't worry. Somestimes when I check it is over 1.6 and is 64 up so it is not bad. It all depends on a lot of things

By the way cdude that is a fast satellite connection. Most are around 1mbps some are as much as $800 bucks and only run at 512down. That is horrible  Anyway, You probably couldn't connect cause of your ping time. Or just cause it won't work with satellite. Try using MSNs

I second that. I never heard of a residential satellite connection that could do that. Maybe he misunderstood the results, instead of reading 200kb/s he read 2000kb/s.

No ,

My sat has no real cap on it ...

i have a 2 x gbit ethernet to the sat box .. which means i can upload and download at up to gbit ... however the most i have ever got from the sat was

i think 38mbit down , 36mbit up

It is usually at 8mbit down , 1mbit up due to problems ... which is why they are now doing network upgrades :)

I went for a private company and i'm paying just over £300 per month

This is what my sattelite company says...
"we offer high speed sattelite internet connection with 1mbitsps down, with 8mbit bursts." So It could very well be over 2mbit the up speed usually around 256 with sattelite

I get no "fixed" speed .... its just as much as is available

Just think .. if no other people are on the sat ... i get full use of a 10gbit sat

1gbit up and down at same time ....

but what would i download and upload :confused2

Thank You.

Also.. how much do you pay a month for it?

guitarnerd
April 29th, 2002, 20:18
My dad's work has sattelite but it is different, he has satellites in his office that send the signal to a local antenna. Which is right down the street. He normally gets DSL down speeds and about 1.5mb up that is $375 a month. But the company they get it through is upgarding there sytem so they will have 3mbps up and down. All satellite connections are effected by weather.

During the Ice Storm... Didn't u see that really small pixel at the top right corner of your TV seem a bit odd in colour when you stare at it? It's sorta lighter than the rest.

Bruce

Storms don't affect my satellite dish, except for the times when we get wet, heavy snow and it sticks to the damn thing blocking the reception.

Well at the moment i'm paying just over £300 + VAT .. but the speeds are not always extreamly fast .. sometimes dips to a couple of mbit ... so i'm having my account upgraded to min 8mbit both ways ...

it will probally increase my fee by 200%

And did i tell you it cost £750 + VAT for the dish and software

What is all this crap I read that you have to have a dial-up ISP??? Don't tell me it is one of those one way things, cause I can get sattelite with the same speed here, but you still need dial up service for you up stream, it is only about $20 a month and no equipment charge.
