hover buttons

Hi I¡¦m new in webdesign so can anyone tell me how to make a ¡§hover buttons¡¨ which change color (shape) when you hover with mouse pointer over it and when you click on it?
I try to use the tools available at MS Front Page but the result is not as good as I would like it to be, to plain ƒ¼ Is there a ready html script I can use just by editing the script or is there a software to do it?

i perfer creating two buttons in photoshop or whatever, one w/ hover, one w/o hover
then write a mouseover javascript code to do that effect

btw...what's going on w/ the werid characters?

yes I was thinking to do the same but the problem is I don't know how to make javascript code :confused2 never used java
