I used to have a bunch of MP3s, but once I burn... er, buy... yeah, once I "buy" the CDs, I get rid of 'em, 'cause they're taking up too much of my very limited disk space... now I only have about 30 or so MP3s.

I have exactly three (3) .mp3's right now. Until late last year, I had an old computer that wouldn't even play them right. Now I have a new one, but I still don't want to fill up a lot of my disk space, so I only get ones where I know there's only one song that I like so I'm not going to go out and spend money on a whole CD... Especially with what the prices of new ones are today. :(

0 tracks in playlist. Playlists are gay. the lock up my computer. i have some songs on one HD some on another and some on once cd drive and some on another, so i guess it confuses the poor old machine. i only have 1175. but considering i have only 28.8 thats not bad i only really dl about 300 by myself (heaven forbid i break the law too excessively) ;) the rest are from friends' teachers' and ones i ripped myself.

when napster kicks the bucket, will people's personal servers accessed through napigator still be there?

Yes they will. Thats why I'm not worried about this whole napster thing.

Just make sure not to download any "software updates" for napster, just in case.

Thats a good idea. i never thought of that. from the beginning ive never trusted the new napster updates. Thats why i have all of them since Beta 3. Right now i use TekNap. (napster clone that runs on unix or in a dos window.) you might think it sounds crazy, but it gives you more control of the situation.

No GUI? That's just wierd. Windows owns us.

Its kind of fun. in the chats you can run scripts and bots, and on a particularly boring day i had 5 of myelf in the same chat room. great for confusion.

Most mp3's I ever had was about 700 or so. Problem was lots of them were stuff like rap (I don't like rap) and other crap that I had because I was burning cds for my friends. No I've only got about 300. I wish my HD was bigger than 10 GB...

I use FileNavigator 2.0. It connects to the main Napster servers, plus two other default servers, and you can add more servers as you wish. And it searches all of them at the same time so no jumping around. Did I mention you can share ANY type of file?

I had 20 250mb zip disks and about 5 gigs on my hard drive with mp3's. And they were all bootleg concerts. I got a cd burner a few weeks ago and now I have no need formy zip drive and 5 gigs more on my hard drive.

LOL, I just booted up Napster, and what should I see, but a message saying I don't have the latest version of Napster, and it's recomended that I download an upgrade. Thanks for the great advice Koolguy ;0

It's probably not a version that makes you pay anyways...

Hello? Does anyone have proof that this new Napster Beta 9.6 makes you pay?

I don't see what you're getting so excited about. Where did anyone ever say anything about the new software updates containing something that would make you pay. Maybe I misunderstood Koolguy, but I thought he was suggesting (probably half-jokingly) that the new napster updates would patch it so that the software wouldn't let you use OpenNap servers to connect. All I did was respond by saying that when I boot up Napster, I got a message to upgrade.

Besides that, if Napster were to get shut down and only remain as a pay service, I'm sure they would make it impossible to connect to their servers with the old software. They surely wouldn't allow people with older version of their software to bypass the pay service.

Hello? The newer ones SUCK. I was just asking if anyone wants to downgrade. Napster reminds me of ICQ, gets worse every update.

Ah, so this is what you guys mean. Sorry.

Koolguy

Yeah, I still think BETA 7 was the best one. BETA 9's media player is messed up. And don't even get me started about BETA 8...

no need to ;). From the looks of it, everyone thought we were talking about something different so I guess it was just a big misunderstanding lol

Aren't they keeping the free service open, and it will co-exist with the pay one?

I'm using version 9.4 now, and it works fine. And yes, ICQ does suck now. I wish I still had 99b.

I think that's the latest thing Napster has said about their "pay" service. IT's expected to launch sometime this summer. But I think this was before they were ordered to shut down or whatever.

Koolguy
February 17th, 2001, 22:16
Yep

Coolin
February 17th, 2001, 22:46
Even if Napster keeps its "free" service. Many users and I will probably go to another program as a feature limited Napster will probably be a pain in the hindquarters.

Canuckkev
February 17th, 2001, 23:18
Yeah, I said that meaning if they don't get shut down. But once Napster goes, won't pretty much all the rest follow? I also have Audio Galaxy Satelite installed, but once Napster is shut down, it will be too I bet. These other samller software makers won't want to face all the lawsuits Napster has. Scour Exchange disappeared a while ago, and I expect the same will happen to the rest.

Napster n., Software that enabled one to share mpeg layer 3 audio files with the world. apparently this did not sit well with several very rich record companies and bands. poor napster.
