Hello everyone, well today I went in and took my placement exam for the Junior College here and I can't wait. I did pretty good on the test, better than a lot of my friends, so I wanted to spread the word.
I am only 16 so I am a little young to be there but it is fun and I can't wait, I am getting my AA there and then I will go to Fresno State and get my masters in Computer Applications, Yay

You're thinking too far ahead :p I used to be like that too. Now my philosophy is to just go with the flow. Life is too boring if it's been decided 10 years ahead of time.

It's not decided it is what I have dreamed of doing for a long time. My life has been wonderful lately, I am not thinking to far ahead, I am doing what I/ME/NOT YOU/MYSELF wants to do. I am not sure on a lot of things yet, but we'll see.

Like your sig :D

I'm heading to UIUC in the fall. I don't like the quality of education in junior colleges. I'm getting my masters in six years.

Syd please remove that from your sig, I have and replaced it with strategist.

Anyways, if you think you are planning too far ahead talk to me. I already know clearly what kind of career I want, and where I want to run for political office.

hmm...i used to "know" what i was going to do...i was going to be some zoologist working with wolves, birds of prey, and all sorts of endangered animals. if not that i would settle for marine biologist.
well now i'm looking more in the general area of art - ceramics, drawing, photography, creative writing - as well as computer sciences. <-- and this is after LOTS of thinking. I'm so specific, huh?
actually i want some general studio art-ish thing for my major and computer-ish/internet-ish something for my minor. but heck, i could change my mind tomorrow. i've figured that out the hard way....several times. :p :biggrin2:

I'm lined up for a summer computer related class at the local community college, but I think it might not fill so I might have to take a flow course. The way my schedule is setup, I'll be taking one college course every semester for the rest of high school. If I can get enough college credits I can have a some credits to fall back on if I blow something in college. I'm only 16, too.

Even though I already know a lot of it I am going to do a lot of computer courses, I am gonna start with VB and then probably take Java, C# and then start getting into C++ and stuff. I would like my Major to be Computer applications and my minor to be music instruments but I have a long time to decide

If you are graduating high school, or entering college remember to take lots of photos of friends and stand beside a car. You'll be glad you did. I wish I had taken more photos...lost friends, dead friends, & our clothes & haircuts look so outdated now, as does my AMC Pacer. :D

I say don't rush your JH and high school years. I used to want to be a marine biologist, a paleontologist, a historian, but now I've finally settled to computer engineering and physics for the last few years.

I wanted to be a geologist... now I settled more for politics or law.

See I look at it differently School is School not a social activity. You should go to school for ONE REASON and that is to LEARN but it has become more than that, and in my opinion stupid, I go to learn! That's it. I am not there to be with friends, nor to look cool or any reason at all simply to learn. So what the heck is the point in taking it slow and having fun there isn't you are wasting your time if that is what you are doing I have time for friends, and I hang out with friends at school but my future is more important

nick's right. Learning is just the sideshow. Its the whole social thing that is the main point of school. Thats why all the action takes place between classes (or during classes if your sitting near the back, heh)

Yeah, high school is pretty much entertainment as far as I'm concerned. I find all the teenage drama to be quite hilarious. If you think you're only at school to learn and friends are the secondary thing, you're sadly mistaken.

I'm not saying one comes before the other I am saying they shouldn't be mixed. You sound like the people that make High school more crappy. The people that are full of themselves I am there to learn that is the definition of school. We'll see who is more succesful

what's wrong with having friends/being cool AND being smart at the same time?

What exactly do you mean by "make high school more crappy"? The only people that could make high school a "crappy" place are people who walk in and light up the place. High school is fun. The different types of people make it fun. You can take the serious route and become successful and lonely or you can have a hella good time and pay attention and become successful. You don't have to be the nerd in the front row that doesn't talk to anyone because he's to busy double checking his pre-cal homework to be successful. IT'S OK TO HAVE A LITTLE FUN.

Full of myself? Ha! Far from it, but from your "We'll see who is more succesful" comment, I can tell you're full of yourself.

I'll be successful just fine. I go to school to hang out with friends, AND to learn. I learn, than hang with friends. I pay attention, but I also have a LIFE.

Some of the most important things at school are participating in activities and learning to socialize. Your not going to do well in the future is all you have in a bunch of knowledge and not the ability to socialize too well. Some of the most important things you learn at school aren't from the textbooks. Going through Jr. High and High school is an experience in itself. You also should take oppurtunities in school to join academic competitions, social work and other stuff. You need to be a well-rounded person, not just a person who learns and doesn't do much else. I'm glad I'm off to college. I'm going to get a good education but I will have fun there too, I will strong good friends and allies there and get more of a grasp on independant life. I'm be posting messages in this forum from UIUC next year.

Yes. They should be mixed. Do you think work is going to simply be all work and no play. Do you think every sphere of life in your future will be seperated into seperate times. It won't in the future, so it shouldn't be now.

School is a chance to work together and socialize. Life isn't about being seperate, but being part of a group, working together, and living together.

There are some jerks that make school a bad experience(I know.... I used to be the guy everyone picked on). However, if you isolate yourself from everyone at school, you are missing a great part of HS and life. Again I know, because I have been there. I was the isolated kid in HS up until this year. This year has been the greatest year of my life so far.

And I am sure I will be very successful even though I combined fun and work at the same time.

Besides if you look at life that way, you won't know the essentials like how to corrupt the people above you in your favor, these things are essential in life.

You gotta have corruption. I don't let people corrupt me, but I don't mind corrupting others.

I'd rather make $20,000 a year and have great relationships and memories of fantastic teenage years then make $50,000 and have nothing to show for it except a bunch of books. Bah. Being happy with friends is more important to me than money.

MONEY is over rated. You can't buy love and true friendship

Well I would and (mark my words) will make at least $50,000 and not be lonely
