I had an email from someone today with a large jpg attached with a poem on it, which I recognised as one I have on one of my sites.

I opened my version of that poem and discovered that it was one that I had from the VERY early days 3/4 years ago. The poem that was sent in the email had ©2001

The person didn't say much or sign it, just said that "I have a copy of it at the LOC (Library of Congress)"

I am never one to withhold an original author if I know it, if I don't know, I will put author unknown on it and hope that the true author will come forth at some time as has been the case on a few occasions.

Occasionally I will get several claiming a certain one is theirs....sometimes I will just remove a poem if I am unsure of an "authors" claim, but this one has me stumped

Edited typo :o

Basically the library of congress catalogs all material published in the USA. Most publisheres include a description of the catalog in their books on the inside front cover which also has a library of congress catalog number, filing information etc.:)

So this person had something included at the LOC which was supposedly copyrighted in 2001 when I have had it on my site for 3/4 years???

Sounds to be a bit of bullfrog if that's the case.

I had an email from her after my enquiry.

The pic was just made last year for distribution in my Restuarant on Mother's Day.Hence the watermark and the copyright. The poem was written 8 years ago and has been circulated many times over the years via newsletters and Poetry Groups. It was brought to my attention by a friend who visited your page while looking for Mother's Day stories and or Poems. This has only been the second time I have found one of my Poems on a web page without my copyright. It's fine with me but I thought you'd like to know who the author is.Thank you so much for taking the time to get back to me.

I will do a search for the poem and if heaps have her name, I will add it. :classic2:

Good excuse to update a 4 year old page :o

If they had a problem with it they would only be able to complain to your host. And I dont think your host would pay much attention to something like that given the circumstances. I notice she claims ownership of the pic, but not the poem..

Oh goody, my host is aware of it! :p
