OK, this is a problem on my friend's computer, and I haven't actually seen it, so I don't know how descript this is, but here goes.

It seems everytime my friend tries to run something on his CD drive and use MSN at the same time, his computer freezes. It seems it's only when he's using MSN too, not when it's running, but he's signed out. Why? I have no idea. Anyone know. Guitarnerd, I'm looking in your direction.

Let's see what else I can think of. I'm not completley sure, but I think sometimes if he opens his CD drive, his computer no longer detects his scanner. I do know he recently formatted his computer and got a new motherboard. Does that help at all?

LOL I had the same problem turned out it was some confilct with msmsgs.exe running. I removed messenger and re-installed and it worked :D Does he have A Cd-rw and a cd/dvd-rom?

Nope, just a cd-drive. He did borrow an external burner from a friend when he formatted his hard drive.

Well I know my Cd-R and my DVD-rom were also giving me conflicts. So go to device manager and look around

Will do...rather I'll get him to do that. If there's a problem should it be blatantly obvious when you look around in the Device manager?

Yes and no, sometimes it will say, something if you look at the driver installed. But it may not, but try and get the messenger thing worked out first if it still screws up then I would worry about it being a conflict with the cd-rom and the cd-r that was previously installed

OK, I'll tell him to check that out.
