The White House knew very, very little. They couldn't possibly cover everything and find out terrorists were going to use planes. So quit -----ing. It is the way things are. The Intelligence community needed more time to figure things out, and with what little intelligence they had they couldn't make a good conclusion. Also keep in mind that there are hundreds of threats on America each day, 99% of them are not credible but need to be checked.

Those little ratty liberals who think the US had the knowledge of 9/11 before hand. Even the Jordanian Intelligence (whom often consulted with the CIA, FBI and NSA) didn't have enough to go on. They get thousands of threats to deal with each day.

No. They did thought it was clear of suspicision. They thought it was clear. And why is the FBI going to tell the liberal media things like that? And it was merely bad paperwork from the now defunct INS.

Isolized, this forum isn't centered on you and you should know that. You act like everything must go your way. I have already complained about it.
Anyways, I was just stating my opinion on this issue.

Is that a double negative? If so, my apologies for making that error. As I am not as picky as you, and as I have a life I do not have the time to correct such errors.

I think that everyone here know what Nick meant by his post. ;) He just did not want to make it obvious and make that "someone" start flaming him by writing what he meant by it.

President Bush is the reason I am going to vote in 2004. People should be proud of him. He is a republican and republicans don't allow disaster to hit the country if they see it coming and that even goes for democrats.
Scary. What happened to the first amendment? Freedom of speech? Eek! I want my privacy back!
Freedom of speech has nothing to do with security. The First amendment has nothing to do with national interests. The Big government is increasing its survillence on airports, military bases, and other federal facilities. Not your home. Privacy? Don't start those consipiracy theories.

Rumsfeld: I am indeed. I've been here on the line holding but
apparently we were cut off. I apologize.
Limbaugh: No problem. It's great to finally have you.
I was saying before we got you that we seldom have guests here but this a rare exception I'm honored to have. It's a pleasure to finally be able to say hello to you sir, so welcome to the program.
Rumsfeld: Thank you so much. It's a pleasure for me to have a chance to say hello to you.
Limbaugh: You've got a limited amount of time. Let me just get into a couple of things real quick.
Could you first give us your take on the controversy that erupted last night with this leak to CBS over the lack of information, or the information that came in, the supposedly lack of action following it concerning the terrorist attack September 11th?
Rumsfeld: Well I guess I'd begin by saying it's really much ado about nothing. To my knowledge there was no warning, no alert as to suicide attackers in airplanes. There's always been concerns about hijacking. That's been true for months and years as a possibility.
Apparently the intelligence community, our intelligence community, the country's, did not have sufficient granularity to issue any specific warning. But I should say that through the spring and summer there was a great deal of threat reporting indicating on a variety of different things all over the world, but without any specificity as to what might happen.
In my view all appropriate actions were taken according to the threat situation as far as it was known. There were times when the Department of State would send out cautions and warnings to their embassies. The Department of Defense had different threat levels for our various areas of responsibility around the world and took a whole series of steps at different times as we always do, but I think it's just grossly inaccurate to suggest that the President had any kind of a warning about September 11th.
Limbaugh: My question is this. We have a bunch of senators and members of Congress and members of the press who are acting as though the President did have that information when it turns out they did too. They knew as much as he did. Maybe not at the same time but they certainly knew it long before today when it's come out. They themselves didn't act upon it to inform the public of anything. How can they now act ignorant and surprised when they in fact knew it all along?
Rumsfeld: Yes, I just don't know what they did know. All I
know is what I knew and what the Executive Branch knew was not actionable in the sense that you could have taken any steps to have dealt with September 11th.
http://www.defenselink.mil/news/May2002/t05162002_t0516sd.html
Read that carefully. I trust these guys (yes I know they are Department of Defense) more than the liberal media.
The US had its hands occupied with many, many, many threats.

Conspiracy theories? What world do you live in?
U.S. Rep. Bob Barr, a conservative Republican from Georgia, has joined liberal Democrats to back new privacy legislation.
"That sphere of what's left of privacy gets smaller and smaller and smaller," said Barr. "Each incremental taking away of that privacy by the government becomes much more important."
He was not commenting on your technical grammar... :)

Wow.
Come live in the states for 20 years and experience what it really is like. You will see that the view is entirely different from the inside. You then might appreciate everything we've been saying.
Reread the quote (you're not siding with him? I thought you were a die-hard republican from what I've read of you. Interesting). Read the article. Not being able to assemble for any (legal) purpose without being questioned by federal agents is alarming.
What is your definition of "small"?
From what I've read of your responses, you really don't know what the issue is *truly* about (shall I invent more "conspiracy theories" ... this statement was based on the privacy issue)? Thats what I base this statement on). You're rationalizing the issues... I feel sorry for you. :confused2

I am. And I am for small government, but that government has one role: maintain security, keep its hand out of the economy unless required absolutely. The democrats propose the opposite.

Don't even say that. I know what is going on and I am not an idiot.
What is your definition of "small"? I think its a little too large.. Think of all the government workers we have...in excess of what, TENS upon TENS of thousands??? (guessing, I'm not quite sure...but they just federalized the aviation security and that added a lot of government workers!)
No. The US government is very small. The economy is made up of 95% Private Sector Jobs. In Argentina the economy is made up of 55% Public sector jobs. The US government is very small compared to other countries.

I could debate with you on these topics until they decide to close this thread....however, it's not worth the energy.
You must realize Giancarlo, Not everyone will think YOUR way. You have to acknowledge that! Once you do, you will grow a foot or two mentally. Until then, I will still be reading these contradicting, and sometimes immature, posts. All I wanted to do was post some information -- I wanted to share my insight...but no, it got poo-pooed on just because I wanted to add to this topic...............
One should be able to talk (and/or debate without another monopolizing every thread) about politics like civilized human beings. It shouldn't be the flaming threads of FWS. This just goes to show that we all need to grow up, no matter what age we are.

Actually Hobbes, you were the one who "poo-pooed" on GC's idea when you said he *truly* didn't know what he was talking about it. He never started his flame process until you ridiculed him.
AS for you GC, most of us, despite how we screw up some, have no where the need to grow up as you, as you are the center of almost every single flame war(some not caused by you like this one, but most center around you ridiculing someone else's idea). Until you admit you are truly childish at times, stop making excuses, and try to stop acting that way, you will continue to be disliked and hated here.

I could make a comment on that, but that would only lead to a flame war where you destroy another thread, so I wont say anything... You just keep on living in that little world you've created for yourself where you are never wrong. Hopefully, you'll come to sooner or later.

Here this idiocy appears, above all, as a weakness and cowardice in the face of true reality and as a neurotic propensity toward avoiding this reality by replacing it with a fictitious one.
Owen, there are some things I will never do and that is bow to this nonsense.

Nonsense... BAh. Everything that you don't like is nonsense in your eyes. Everyone is always wrong and you are always right. Everyone here dislikes you because are arrogant and blind yet you continue to tell us this is nonsense. I could easily pull up multiple threads where you are way wrong and childish.
You got to learn to face reality. That reality is that you are not perfect. Yet, you continue to post on this message board as you are and get mad when I or others call you up on it.
This kind of attitude will not get you into politics as you claim your dream is. One thing you don't realize is you need a good public image, and if what you are showing here is your natural self and you can not suppress it, you don't stand a chance at your dream.

Let me be the first, on this thread, to offer my apology to Giancarlo. I was out of line when I stated that you had no idea what the issue was truly about. I said that in response to the privacy issue. You claimed that I was making up an outrageous remark regarding the decay of privacy being a conspiracy. Well, I wasn't; and its not a conspiracy. Its a frightening reality. Thats where I felt my contribution to this thread was poo-pooed on.
As for nick, that statement included me too. I still need to grow up and I realize that my posts show it. (Did you realize too? :p :) )
Owen.. regarding my insult, there are only three posts after that between me and GC. The "flame war" was before that (and after he said he won't talk about politics).

Okay, Hobbes I see your point. I will end this now... it has gone too far. This has been a slow clash of opinions and it has been going on for months. I think it is time to put it to rest and I think all of us are tired of it. I also apologize for things I have said in the past months (I know that is inadequate but it is all I can say) and I accept your apology.
Well, I wasn't; and its not a conspiracy. Its a frightening reality.
I prefer living under security rather than unsafe conditions. My family on my mom's side (my grandmother/grandfather) can tell you how it was like living under Franco....

The only weakness that can be seen is this unintelligent idea that you are always correct. Thinking in such a way will only lead you to your downfall because if you honestly believe such a foolish idea, you will never be able to learn from your mistakes; therefore, you will never get better at anything you do.
Giancarlo, if you act the way you do at these forums in person, I'd truly be surprised if anyone takes you seriously. Your ideas, which I find to be lacking judgment, might be all fine in your mind, but just because they seem perfect to you does not automatically make them perfect. You will eventually have to collaborate with others on things if you wish to work in politics, and you'll have to learn to listen to their ideas and make an effort to either accept them or maybe coalesce them with yours to make them work because whether you like it or not things will not always be to your liking, so get over it already.
Giancarlo
May 16th, 2002, 22:29
I think you fail to recognize what this world is really about. It is about partisanship and there is nothing you can do to change that. I find your ideas are lacking in judgement too. I don't act this way in real life because I normally do not express my opinions unless in economics class about political situations. I am as charsmatic as Berlusconi is on politics.
Seeing that this is doomed to never get back to the topic, it is closed.
