Why people offer free hosting instead of free domain name?
50Mb CGI PHP ASP may cost you 10/mo, but a domain name is only take you 10/yr.

You'd have to be getting ripped off pretty badly for it to cost that much.

There used to be namezero for domains. People may have eventually figured out that if they're serious enough about their site to want a domain, they should get control of it theirselves and not have those huge ads.
