How much money do you think you can make just from having advertising on websites, 10,000 unique hits a day for instance, which companies?

Archbob

Depends. Actually anime fan sites can make huge amounts selling dicount anime videos.

Toefur

15000 unique hits is like 15 bux of popups and then you have banner ads and what not so his figure is correct. Its not ez halling 15000+ unique a day!

Toefur
May 20th, 2002, 21:52
Yeah, it's $30 a day.

It's not a whole lot (I don't think) for how much traffic it is. And it's not easy to get that much.

That depends entirely on the company you choose. Can range from from .01 cent to .20 cents (maybe more, but would be in areas I wouldn't venture into :p)

And do you get more money for banners containing adult content?

Jan

My personal preferences (because they are the ones I am with) are www.fastclick.com and www.i-clicks.net. I can't answer you on the adult :o , maybe someone else can. :classic2:

I-click,
They pay 5 cents for banner clicks or 50 cpm what does that mean? Do you get paid by both cpm and clicks??

Jan
May 22nd, 2002, 09:27
I am not sure, but I think the CPM is only there when they don't have many banners, but last time I logged in to check on the banners to deselect ones that weren't doing so good, there were over 100 and the CPM thingy hadn't been on for quite a while.

Sheesh I hope that make sense....nearly bedtime in Aus

firstmark
May 22nd, 2002, 18:46
I-clicks is paying a minimum of 6 cents per click some campaigns are 7 cents at present.
You have to deselect almost all campaigns but relevant ones to keep up a high CTR though.

SilverX
May 22nd, 2002, 19:50
does the person have to click on the banner and then click on something else to enter the page for me to get paid? Is it in the same window or can i make it spawn up in a new console?

firstmark
May 22nd, 2002, 22:14
I-clicks is a first click program meaning a user only has to click on the ad for you to be paid. The i-clicks terms don't mention that ads can't open in a new window I don't think, so I believe thats ok. I-clicks requires above teh fold placement.

Jan
May 22nd, 2002, 22:45
The ads do open in a new window anyway, I nervously clicked on one when I first joined just to see what happened. :o

Some random comments:

- If your main reason for doing websites is to make money, it's usually much more effective to focus on affiliate programs than ad networks (banners).

- When it comes to affiliate programs, there's no "best" program that will do well at any site. It all depends on what your site is about, what audience it gets and how the offers are presented.

- The secret to making good money isn't finding a great program alone, but to combine and mix well programs that works at *your* site. If I told you who *my* top earner is, that doesn't mean that you'd do well with them at *your* site (and the other way around).

- "Low-value sites" (entertainment) will usually attract more visitors than "high-value" sites (for example: shopping) , but will usually make you much less money per visitor. Which route to go is simply a matter of what area is best suited for you. (It's possible to do well with either type)

- It's probably easier for most to make good money with a site if you plan on how to make money with it (without relying on banners) *before* you start building it. (That's what works for me, anyway ;)

- As for how much money you can make, there's not really an upper limit. (well, there probably is - but it's pretty high :) I know a few people who make five figures monthly from their sites (with affiliate programs and advertising alone) - it can be done.

- There are lots of different strategies that can be used to be reach a good income from websites. One thing I see in common with most people I know who do well with their sites is that they have quite a few of them. In other words, building multiple sites is often an easier way to increase profits (after a certain level has been reached). For those with either exceptionally popular sites, or who knows how to squeeze out high revenues per visitor, or others who just really know what they're doing - there are plenty of exceptions to this - but I think the multiple sites strategy is the easiest way to increase your income after a site has reached "its potential".

(I'm not claiming to be an "expert" or anything (there are plenty of people who make much more money than me) - but I make my living from my sites, and am happy that I'm able to do so. (btw only a very small portion of my income comes from my webmaster-related sites, so I don't think I'd recommend that particular area if you're in it for the money - although - of course it can be done :)

Sorry about my messy post. Hopefully some of it made sense.

Oh, and I don't have any experience with Anime sites, so I can't give you any specific recommendations for those :)

toefur said that he gets 15,000 uniques daily which comes to $30 bucks a day, (some are not loaded), which he makes 5 figures from popups alone.

My site's traffic is mainly kids to young adults,**fans**, older than that are usually webmasters trying to make good money like me.

Also, do you know anyone that makes 6 figures from a network of site, **my personal goal**, any further help people can give me would be great.

Knut

Thanks, wly :)

xzx: Yup, as I said - I know a few people make 5 figures monthly (more than $10 k) from their sites (which amounts to 6 figures/year - which it seems is what you're referring to).

It's definitely possible. I won't name them, though. People who do well have a tendency of not wanting to share too much information in a public forum, as there are always a lot of copycats out there.. no point in attracting attention to yourself and create extra competition ;)

I don't know anyone who make 6 figures monthly, but I'm sure there are some of those out there too :)

Im about the same as toefur.. same unique visits a day.. and same amount earned per day. I get it from focusin.com but they include some popups in their banners. My site is www.originalicons.com

Its really NOT that much. Considering I was making about $150 a day with 25,000 visitors a day over a year ago with amazing media. The glory days are gone for advertising :(

The Fastclick Ad Network gives you control, flexibility and a reliable monthly payment equal to 65% of the revenue Fastclick receives from selling your ad space.

Display Fastclick banners, skyscrapers, InVue ads, or Fastclick Pop-Unders

Great rates: We pay by impression (CPM) and click (CPC) and give you 65% of the sale!

So how does this all work??

What are the average rates? 65% of the sale means what?
Thanks...

I have no experience with them as my site has been rejected by them, but I have only heard good things about them

I am almost 100% sure their rates are better than focusin

with 65% they mean they will pay you 65% of the amout advertisers are paying fastclick to get their promotion
an example: if someone pays $1 for 1000 impressions and you show these 1000 impressions your earn $0.65, that means 65%

Ah, to think what I'd do to get thousands of daily uniques like some of the people here. :( But anyhow I make around $200 a month (~$6.60/day) from one of my sites, with about 300-350 daily uniques. The way to do that is to never waste any time on banners, find some good affiliate programs, and use text links from those that are very well targeted and just seem like natural content. Make it look like content instead of like an ad, and you'll get click through rates around 10% or higher (that's about where mine are). Maybe only 1 out of 500 people who click actually make a purchase, but if the commission is significant you still make out far better than with banners. Of course, you have to have the type of site where those sorts of affiliate programs can be found... web hosting affiliate programs are what's always worked best for me.

My profitable site is http://www.free-webmaster-resources.net (Kinda simplistic design, but easy to maintain. The hosting page gets most of the hits and makes probably 85% of the profit). Unfortunately there's no formula that'll work across all sites... I have some other sites with a fair number of uniques that I've never been able to make anything off of (well, no more than a couple dollars).

For any site, though, the amount of money you make per visitor will have a direct correlation to how related the search term the visitor comes in by (presuming search engine traffic) is to the item you're hoping to get the person to buy. If you look at your counter/tracker/logs and see what search terms people are coming in by, that'll give you an idea of the affiliate programs you should look to sign up with. Likewise, if you can do so while making it flow naturally, you might want to change the text of your pages a little to try to attract more profitable search terms. For example if you're hoping to get people to buy anime videos like someone further up in the thread suggested, it's best to find a natural way to mention terms that people looking to buy those would be searching for a few times in your text so that search engines will see it.

The little $1 per lead type of things usually aren't very useful in my experience, but some per sale programs (ones where you may be making $10-$50 per sale) can be good. 99% won't do anything for you, but if you're lucky you stumble onto a couple that fit your site perfectly. If you just want to slap something onto a page without monitoring it then banners/popups work best, but with a lot of experimentation and some luck per-sale programs can do a lot better... again, depending on how much there is out there for your type of site.

I must say your approach to potential customers is unprofessional. I was confronted with this on your site.

We regret that we are no longer supporting your web browser (Netscape 4.X).

We apologise for any inconvenience that this has caused but you really should consider upgrading as Netscape Navigator 4.X is old and no longer supports today's HTML and CSS

As we wish to write an attractive site that loads quickly for our visitors and is easy for us to update, we have decided to stop supporting the ageing relic that is the Netscape 4.X range
of browsers.
