Well, we're building a new computer, it's not going to be SUPER fast, but fast enough - i wanna know if its ok..
- 1gHz AMD Duron
- 256MB DDR Ram
- MSI GeForce2 MX400 64MB AGP (i know its not that good, but it was all i could afford)
- Liteon CDRW: 40x Read, 24x Write, 10x Re-Write
- 40GB Seagate Barracuda ATA100 HDD
- Genius Optical Mouse (PS/2)
- Creative Soundblaster
- The Usual Panasonic 1.44MB Panasonic Floppy Drive
- Auriga Keyboard
- Altec Lansing Speakers
good for games? or not.... i've spent about AUD$1000 - i was better off buying a good one, but dad just wanted to build it anyway...

You have the best non SCSI or ATA133 hard drive made so that is cool. THe only thing I don't like is see if you can't go with and Athlon over the Duron
That video card rocks anyway.
And you will love the DDR ram that makes a big improvement on performance

well i was on a budget - pretty much $1000 - and that was all i could afford - i would've even gotten AMD Xp 2000+ if i wante to give up the big HDD and gfx card

I could have got you more, for that much... or that much for cheaper. :D :p
But it is a good system; it should cover all your gaming needs with ease (in my opinion).

My cousin has 3 computers one with a radeon 8500, another with a geforce4 ti4600(one of the best cards on the market), and the other with a geforce4 mmx400 and I was there and could see no striking difference with the two geforce4s
It may be your opinion but I have actual REASONS to back up what I am saying. I have experienced first hand and it is an amazing card. And for the radeon card, the drivers never work and he only gets 30-50FPS if he is lucky it will stay at 50 on CS

yeah, everyone tells me to get ati radeon card, but i said no because all drivers are hacked, may be better in some ways but not all
and the mx may not see diffrent at hand, but it does do worst in benchmarks, it may not be the best card, but its good if you dont do serious gaming

Don't go with Duron.. for 2 reasons:
1) It's not as good as athlon
2) AMD is getting rid of duron very soon. your system will be obsolete soon.

Dude I can play most games on my nVidia tnt2 32mb card at resolutions between 800x600 to 1024x768
Your card is twice as good as mine so you do the math

I got the same card except it's a Nvidia... every game works on it and it has awesome graphics, but I guess it's not the best.

His is nVidia too, nVidia is just the chip set not the manufacturer. Kinda like on MOBOs where there are sis chip sets and Via (think of the radeon cards as the Via) there are just different kinds but if it is any kind of geforce it is nvidia
