I have been at http://www.da.ru/ and I am not sure if *.da.ru can be used with emails too or in other words is it possible to registrate *.da.ru with mydomain or zoneedit or whoever

You don't need to. You can register a .da.ru and they provide the DNS. Just setup the zone file as you wish. I believe you can configure MX records as well.

.da.ru isn't the best. I've found http://www.uni.cc to offer uni.cc domains and you can add MX records, DNS servers, ect, and if you dont want to use your own MX, you can set up unlimited web-based (uni.cc's mail system) and mail forwarding accounts. You can also use re-direction if you wish, too. plus, I think they provide stats on your domain

Last I knew, UNI.CC charged for the extra services, such as MX records, though.

i didn't mean it like they're a bad service, just that there are better ones (uni.cc)

and UNI.cc doesnt charge for MX or any of the other services-all free :)

They must've changed then since they started offering those. Probably not enough people were willing to pay.

.da.ru allows NS records, so yes, you can use zoneedit.com, etc...

What does this mean at http://www.uni.cc/unicc/terms.mv :

3. The domain name service is not free for web sites
currently accessible through any existing
domain name (.com, .net, .org or any other country
code domain name). A mantenience fee is required
for these domain names.

So if I assign a webforward I have to pay, because the site has been accesible by a com-domain of a FWP?

Are there similar (strange) conditons at de.ru too?

keith

nope.

no, it means that they make you pay if you're using it to forward to http://www.something.com, but they dont mind forwarding to http://www.something.[hostname].com or something like that

And how do I get my *@*.da.ru email-adresses?

I tried to switch DNS to mydomain, but it didn't work as mentioned below:

In the middle column there is a menu called "DNS-Record". I tried to create a DNS-Record and got

This domain is already registered
Repeated password mismatchs (I used the same pw as for registration, modify www-adress works)

Then I tried to modify
Error:
This is not NS-record

.da.ru is, i feel, best combined with zoneedit.com. then [anything]@whatever.da.ru goes to an email address you specify, then you can have admin@ go to something@hotmail.com, & webmaster@ go to somethingelse@yahoo.com

I think it depends on the needs, if one chooses mydomain or zoneedit. With zonedit you have unlimited forwards of email-adresses, while with mydomain it is limited to 5 adresses and a catch-all-forward-adress. But with zonedit your transfer is limited to 1GB

Anyway, how can I change DNS at da.ru? As mentioned it did not work and it has to be the same procedure at da.ru to change to zoneedit or mydomain.

keith

yes, but you must remember: that transfer is dns transfer, not web transfer, since they are not a host, just a dns service. a decently popular site will do about 7-10 megs of dns bandwidth a year.

Keith,
we are talking of different topics. You are right. But I would like to know how to transfer my subdomain from .da.ru at http://www.da.ru and not to talk about, which one is better, mydomain or zoneedit. At the moment I think zoneedit is better for homepages, but that is not what I want to talk about in this thread. I discussed that in an other thread already.

you are mistaken. zoneedit.com does not host homepages. they provide free dns, like i said earlier.

i'm not trying to tell anyone which is better.

Yes I know, but maybe I had something misunderstood. If I own a domain, I have to define which dns-servers this domain uses.

So I would like to say that my da.ru subdomain is assigned to ns2.zoneedit.com (209.81.71.60) and ns3.zoneedit.com (209.61.140.1) and also at zoneedit I have to define the webforward.

But I have a problem to define the dns-server at http://www.da.ru If that would work I won't have a problem to install the rest.

Do you believe I didn't understand, what you said, then please let me know and thanks for your patience.

to specify dns servers for a .da.ru domain:

1] you must go to the option "dns record" about half way down the middle and either create new.

2] select your domain name... do everything like it says...

3] in the 5 text/dropdown menu sets:
-a] leave the first box on top blank, select "NS" fom the dropdown menu, and put "ns2.zoneedit.com" in the box to the right
-b] do the same with the second set, only input "ns3.zoneedit.com" into the box n the far right.

there. you have delegated your .da.ru domain to 2 nameservers.

so, *do not* use the "www-record" options... *do* use the "dns-record" options.

hope that helped.

Keith,
thank you. I think I tried this already with the mentioned error, but maybe I did something wrong

>1] you must go to the option "dns record" about half way
>down the middle and either create new.

I mention it exactly so there could be no misunderstood.

In the middle it says DNS-record: create/modify/remove and I choosed create and a new window opens.

>2] select your domain name... do everything like it says...

do you mean with "select" I have to type my domain name (without www) and type the email-adress in the field below?

>3] in the 5 text/dropdown menu sets:
> -a] leave the first box on top blank,

What do you mean with leave first box blank?

Below the email-box I see Name/Type/Host
and in the 1st row I put in for name: "ns2.zoneedit.com" or "ns1.mydomain.com" (with another try), Type "NS" (which is preselected) and leave the host field empty. Earlier I wrote the ip-Adress in the host field too.

> you have delegated your .da.ru domain to 2 nameservers.

Unfortunately, no.

I get the message:

This domain is already registered
No valid NS-record specified,

When I fill in the ip-adress in the host-field too, I get the message:
This domain is already registered

When I leave the first row of DNS-Servers blank, I get too:
This domain is already registered

When I use the modify DNS-option, I get:
Error:
This is not NS-record

Thanks again!

You are great! Thanks!
I had a quick look on your site and it seems to be different. But I am in hurry now. Please do not delete the gif-file. I want to compare everything later.

I think I have to sent them a mail. I get again, for a new:
Error:
This domain is already registered.
for modify or remove:
Error:
This is not NS-record

I can't see domain created/last modified, but this is shown probably for created dns-records only.

You can remove your file, Keith, thanks again.

Keith,

Your link http://forums.wzr.net/weezer.da.ru_dns.gif is broken.

Could you post a new one or tell us exactly how we can make da.ru dns zone to work? This problem has been bothering me for a while:

If we can get da.ru to work with zonedit or mydomain.com, why does it have the options for us to fill out CNAME, A, MS settings? Isn't it a conflit with the same setting atzonedit or mydomain.com?

From your previous post, to get it working, we just fill in the NS record and leave others(A, CNAME, MS) alone and set them in zonedit or mydomain, am I right?

da.ru always says it updates the zome within 1 hour and mydomain seems to update in hour too. But da.ru never worked?!

Could you explain to us? Thanks!
