Looking at search results at google (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%22runtime+error+R6009%22&btnG=Google+Search) it could be a few things. I suggest you browse through a few and see if they apply to you.

Can anyone tell me what runtime is/does?

I might be showing my ignorance here so bear with me :-)
But I believe that runtime is basically what it says. It's the state a process is in (i.e. "running"). And the error message really gives you a clue as to what is wrong. Your machine doesn't have enough free resources (usually memory - either physical or virtual) to cope with what you are asking it to do.
Try changing the properties for you shortcut to the command prompt, specifically the amount of memory allocated to it.

I believe ansa is right, and for your stuff you are showing, that is because it has been compiled and encoded, you will never see microsoft source code unless you work for them, and if you do see it they give you the choice of removing your tounge, hands, eyes, feet, and pretty much all your limbs or shooting you

Seeing as how you're runnign Win 98SE you should be able to update Win 98 over itself without losing its settings. I've done this a few times just to reset stuff thats messing up.
Can't guarantee it will fix it but it's worth a try.
As long as you don't hold me responsible :-)

i don't have a 98 CD :(
only the full installation 98SE which came with my computer
Mullin
:D Then you can! Send me a PM with your computer brand ie compaq, HP etc and I will let you know where to find the setup so that Win98 will reinstall ;)

I bet you've never heard of Dan Technology
They are only based in England (London and Leeds)
It doesn't matter anyway, i can re-install 98SE of the CD, it's not the upgrade, it's the full CD.

Yep, i've heard of Dan, they make very good PC's, and at a reasonable cost.
Although they are kind of losing some market to Gateway apparently, or were tha last i knew.

First I'd suggest you try and get hold of Norton Utilities (in whatever the latest in carnation is - maybe 2002?) and run the tests in that. They are usually very helpful.
After that, yes, i'd go with reinstalling win 98 over itself.

Then, personally, i think you're next best option is to try reinstalling win98 back over itself.
But i could be wrong ;)

You have never heard of FDISK
FDISK is like the partition manager for FAT32 File Systems
