trenzterra June 7th, 2002, 03:04 I feel like clean install xp, but how?
Do I have to fdisk before I do it? if so, I need the command.
Because when I enter clean install, it asks me to install a new thingy or repair the current installation.
I think that the install a new thingy will install it to C:\Windows2 from what I know...
is0lized June 7th, 2002, 03:25 just put the disk in, restart and choose a clean install, remember to do a format of your file system and then install your XP
remmeber to backup whatever
trenzterra June 7th, 2002, 03:26 how do I do a format?
The options for me are to repair previous installation and to install to C:\Windows2 because C:\Windows is taken up.
is0lized June 7th, 2002, 03:42 i never used XP before but im sure there are more options...
guitarnerd June 7th, 2002, 04:08 Put your XP disk in when you start and boot from it (unless it is not bootable, but it should be) After it loads all the drivers into the hard drive it will ask you if you want to...
install
repair
or exit
Go to install...then it show your hard drives and partition... first delete all the partitions...so you have a "naked/raw" hard drive.
Then create all the partitions you want; making sure you have made partitions not just went straight forward to install.
Now, you can go forward with the install first it will format and from there you are all set.
If you get an error saying you can not delete the main partition then you will need to download a boot disk and run c:/format C
Download boot disks at bootdisk.com
and if your disk is non bootable the above paragraph applies
is0lized June 7th, 2002, 04:15 could of said it any better... i knew i was missing something.. just i havnt used xp before...
if i were you when you format make a partition so you can put your docs on that drive and wont lose em when you format c:\

Yes that is always good to do. actually I keep a small partition for all my files I still need then reformat everything delete the partition and reformat it.
The XP install is exactly the same as 2000 except when it has a fancy GUI

trenzterra June 7th, 2002, 19:16 I have done it now, but my Windows Update now don't work properly. Does that mean I have to do it all over again?
YUPAPA June 7th, 2002, 19:22 Maybe you can use partition magic to do that?
I do fdisk right after I format my computer and before installing the O/S.
