WOW! :shocked2:

I should have known this was going to happen. US went down into bunker mode against Korea and got tied. Italy did the same and this game is tied going to golden goal. If Korea advances, I am willing to bet you, no one plays defensive against Korea, especially with only a 1 goal lead.

I am pulling for Korea though, although I do like Italy(and predicted them to get to the round of 4).

WOW!!!!!!!!

Amazing win for Korea when it looked like Italy was going to take it away in the last minutes of regulation. Korea deserved that win.

I will say, I don't think the officiating was superb(little bit more helpful for Korea, such as that 2nd yellow for that "fall"), but Korea was the best team, at least midway into second half they became better(didnt get a chance to see much of the 1st).

I betcha no one plays fall back defense against Korea now.

Some may same .. what an upset? But I think Korea deserved to win after the amazing fight they've given the Italians. Imagine, both the goals came in the final minutes of each round. Now, Korea will be playing Spain and looking at how things are going I think Spain must (be) consider(ing) Korea a very strong opponent.

Next match on Friday, I guess.

Anyway it's surprising Korea won at the last part.

That was an awesome match. Probably one of the best matches in this World Cup! Korea never gave up and they were rewarded with the equalizer and also the winning goal. They fought really hard to grab the win, credits to them. If they carry the momentum in the next round, we shall be seeing another good, competitive match. :D

I think the Italian eventually will get over it, I believe that they shouldn't disregard their oponent and think it will be a cinch. Because that is where they lose, underestimated their oponent. I think they want to win soo bad that make them play dirty more than they was with any other game. I think the S. Korea team deserved it, they tried really hard and whoever thought they could score a ties at the last 4 minutes. And then when on to score at the extra 30 min. Quarter final will be England Vs. Brazil, Senegal vs. Turkey, USA vs. Germany, and S. Korea vs. Spain. So who here think who will won over who?

Here is my guess for the game

Brazil over England ( Let said I have a hunch, somehow Brazil once again will prove their skill)
Senegal over Turkey (Tough, they seem like well match for each other, so who win wouldn't matter)
Germany over USA (al though, I like it to be USA but I think USA play is a lil' too loosely for German who much bigger and better in experience but you might never know.)
S. Korea over Spain (I believe S. Korea can overcome this game, why? Because they have suprise me so many time in the past. And they do beat Porturgal who on the list rate higher than Spain. So yeah, I wouldn't be surprise if S. Korea won if they using the same determination they used when they battle with Italy and Portugal)

But we'll see how all the battle came out, no thing is a sure thing.

england has too many crap players (scholes when he's in midfield, and nicky butt)

Their offence is greatest by far in the world.

Although there are defensive lapses in the brazilian line-up, I am sure their coach will adjust that.

My only question is that, how come Brazil play so well in this year world cup, and yet lose to France in the final of 1998? And oh man! If no one realize it already France this year was so badly that they make lil' kid soccer game actually lo_ok like professional. Most of the person said the World Cup 1988 was "fixed", I just hope Brazil will play there best this year, and not actually give up another "fixed" World Cup.

So for those fan of England who know chances are England can won over Brazil, if they willing to pay enough.

Did you guys hear this: the Korean player who scored the winning goal (in the Korea vs Italy match) has been dismissed from the club he plays for. The club apparently is Italian and they say that he has brought disgrace to Italy after scoring the goal. Wonder who one should support: his country or his Italian club :D

Totally rediculous. On a brighter note: the same player has been honoured by Korean Airlines with free air travel to anywhere for the next 4 years.

yep, apparently it wasn´t enough for the italians to make fools of themselves on the football field, they have to show the world what sour losers they are too... :confused2

as for the quarterfinals they´re looking interesting...

england-brazil 1-0

the most interesting game, neither of the teams have impressed me so far... brazil was pretty lousy in the belgium match, they seemed slow and unmotivated or just lazy, i´m not really sure... but yet they won by 2-0, it shows ronaldo, rivaldo and ronaldinho can score even if the rest of the team seems half asleep...
england beat denmark by 3-0 but i think it was coincidence (or maybe just dumb luck) that they actually found the net in that match... i think england will win 1-0 due to a better defense...

germany-usa 1-3 :)

germany had one attack against paraguay where a few of them actually appeared to be football players and not 80 year old men looking for their wheelchairs, they scored on that attack and won because paraguay had failed to take advantage of their opportunities... usa surprised me by beating mexico, i think they at least have a good chance...

senegal-turkey 2-0

turkey has basically done what they had to, nothing more, senegal has gotten way further than anyone expected and i think they´ll reach semifinals at least (hopefully the final)

spain-korea 2-2 (2-3)

spain has been lucky to get this far, i don´t think they´ll get any further... i think it will be a pretty even match with quite a lot of opportunities for both teams but korea will win on a golden goal...

in the semifinals senegal will beat england of course, and korea will beat usa and we´ll end up with senegal-korea in the final... :D

i really thought england would win that match, until it actually started that is, brazil was by far the better team... the referee was a walking disaster but i´ve gotten used to that in this world cup...

didn´t it look like ronaldinho missed (?) that freekick? i don´t think he was going for the goal...

england made their worst game in this world cup, there was no speed, no anything... it didn´t look like they wanted to win...

I disagree. Seamen was at the correct position. It's just that the direct shot totally took him (just like everybody else watching the ball) by surprise. It was the most unexpected of free kicks and I doubt if anybody else in his place would as well have been able to get a hand on it.

Was the Ronaldinho free-kick intended? I mean it was so perfectly placed. :)

I agree that Kahn is definitely one of the best (if not the best) goalkeepers in the world today. His reading of the game is excellent, he always knows when to come out to break plays.

Mikki00
June 21st, 2002, 19:42
I don't think Ronaldinho kick was intended, because he was just as much as surprise as anybody else to see it when it. But it is a perfect goal, like one in a million chance. I also don't think he deserved a red card, a yellow card at the max but not the red card, now he can't even play the final because of that red card.

Anyways USA did gave a good fight, but just as I suspected Germany does have a strong hold. If it wasn't for their strong hold, USA was easily going to tie during the game. But I still cheer for USA, maybe the next World Cup they will improve for the better.

adizlaja
June 21st, 2002, 20:00
I think that Ronaldinho shot that ball at the goal on purpose. As soon as he put the ball on the ground, he looked up, and shot the ball right at the goal. He saw Seaman off his line and made the most out of it.

Also, Brazilians know what they are doing and if he was going to cross is, I bet he would have done that and not hit a perfect shot that was at least ten yards away from his teammates.

Another thing, Mikki00, you said that he didn't mean to do that because he was surprised about what had happened. Now think about that for a minute. If you would have made that shot, and taken the lead against England, would you not be as surprised as him?

adizlaja
June 21st, 2002, 20:01
BTW, doesn't a red mean that you only sit out for one game? He will miss the semi-final, but not the final if they advance from what I know.

A red card or two yellow cards and the player will have to miss the next one match. Ronaldinho will be back for the finals :D

BTW, I heard Raul won't be playing the QF today.

Mikki00
June 21st, 2002, 22:50
adizlaja Nope the red card doesn't mean he will sit out for one game but two, count them 2 game. That mean no more semifinal, and no more final for him. How suck is that! With him score a hit goal like that and doesn't got to play 'til the end? What a pity.

And trenzterra, I'm not sure if he push someone, but all I know is they said his knuckle jam the England guy in the jaw, and his leg made the England guy trip. Well I see it over and over, and I still couldn't see his knuckle hit the jaw, however I did see the other guy trip, but seriously that not that serious and I notice it was when Ronaldinho about to fall that his foot caught with the England guy. And I don't think that deserved a red card, I feel the guy who gave the red card must be really bored at that time.

Awesome penalty shoot-out. I thought the Koreans were gonna lose since they should have less experience at things like this. Joaquin shot it pretty bad, though, and that caused them the match. :o

It feels nice to see an Asian team in the World Cup semi-finals!

Anyway, what's the deal with Ronaldinho missing the next two matches? I thought a red card will only get him suspended for a game. Damn, Brazil should be less effective offensively now.

Losers always blame the refs because they've got no one else to blame. Of course, no one wants to blame themselves. It was mostly their fault they couldn't score goals against their opponent... :o

I agree with Jan, that loser mostly end up blaming the ref. And was because they're too cocky to think they couldn't be beat. But Grin was right about loser blaming the ref, because they got no one else to blame. lol

And Blank Verse, when it said Ronaldinho will force to miss two games that mean he will miss the two next games. The first game, Brazil against Sen. or Turk. whoever win that game. And the second which is the final, Brazil against S. Korea or Germany. Now isn't that two games he missed already? So practically he can't play for Brazil at the end. There is no such thing as he missing the semis, because the semis only got one game Brazil play in.

Anyways, I'm pretty excited, since S. Korea has made it in. The team I pick from waay back, when most said they couldn't even made it in quarterfinal. :D But chances are Brazil will won the World Cup. Then again, nobody will know, because this World Cup has everybody prediction upside down.

Partly true. A red card does mean the player misses two games but that's including the game currently being played. So technically Ronaldhino will miss the semis but he'll be back for the finals.

Well, the Italians were sore losers. Simple as that. :(

I hate the Spaniards, but still, I feel sorry for them. The referees (especially those guys on the sides; I call them referees too) were TERRIBLE. Spain made two goals. Both of them should have counted. If the referees were playing fairly, Spain would have won without penalty kicks, and without the Golden Goal period. I would bet the Koreans bribed the refs with money. ;)

well, i think the referee was right on that first goal, but clearly on the second one the assisting referee screwed up big time, that should take away his rights to ref fifa matches for several years if theres any justice in this world... however i don´t think that would have resulted in a goal if the ref hadn´t blown the whistle... what really made me feel sorry for spain was when someone (i forgot who) got completely free with the ball close to koreas goal and that stupid ---- (that was the nicest thing i could think of that was yet descriptive of his character) on the sideline raised his little flag when the spaniard was clearly not off-side...

oh well, thats how this world cup will be remembered, lots of surprised and lots of slow, blind and deaf referees... :confused2

It clearly said, that you guys haven't watch FIFA world club enough to know that if a players get two yellow card in different games, he will result in being kicked out for one game. But here Ronaldinho got right away the red card in a games, that mean he will and can't play for two games. Don't believe me? Go check your source on the official rules of FIFA in fifa.com.

It's hard to picture Germany with the World Cup, more likely the world cup has picture of Brazil all over it. Again, unless it was another "rigged" game like in '98, otherwise hard to even said Germany will made it into the final with Brazil. Since, more than likely I believe S. Korea and whoop Germany fairly well, like they did with Portugal, Italy, and Spain. S. Korea this year have very great potential of making into the final with Brazil, and they're very deserving to they had proven themselves along the way as anybody has seen.

What if Germany "again" scores a goal and then played defense for the whole time and doesn't let the Koreans break them down?

Germans are not easy to breake down, especially when Korea isn't such a great finishing team.

They've been expected to win. They've been winning. How is that not lving up to expectations. They may not have been playing their best, but they found ways to win when it mattered most. That's the sign of a strong team.

I don't think they were. Korea's offense sucks. They can't score and what makes you think they were better? Because they held the ball and didn't do anything when they got to the last third of the field?

Germany was a lot more dangerous and I thought dominated the game. The had better opportunities too I think. Germany deserved to win, and Koreo would not have scored on Germany's defense if they played another 60 minutes.

Brazil should easily roll over Germany in this one. Neither team is playing on the top of their game, but Germany has not been impressive in their last few games at all - and their "win by one" tactic is not likely to work over Brazil.

Gernamy was the better team in the first half and they have created a lot of chances for themselves. I think the corner count was like 10-1 in favour of Germany. However, they did not have good finishers and squander their chances.

In the 2nd half, however, it's a different story. Brazil was dominant both in offence and defence. Ronaldo was superb and Germany simply had no answer towards the end of the game.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I honestly doubt it. If Singapore faced Germany, we might see scores somewhere around 0-12. The UAE is ranked 61 places higher than Singapore, and they got crushed by China (I think it was 4-0 or 5-0). So I don't think Singapore would have any chance.

BTW, about the FIFA anthem...it wasn't supposed to sound like the Titanic nor Christmas. Couldn't you identify the distinct Korean/Japanese motifs in the song?

Sorry to disappoint you, but I honestly doubt it. If Singapore faced Germany, we might see scores somewhere around 0-12. The UAE is ranked 61 places higher than Singapore, and they got crushed by China (I think it was 4-0 or 5-0). So I don't think Singapore would have any chance.

BTW, about the FIFA anthem...it wasn't supposed to sound like the Titanic nor Christmas. Couldn't you identify the distinct Korean/Japanese motifs in the song? Well I was expecting more than 0-12 actually. I was expecting 0-20 from Brazil. My sister says scores stop at 5. What's the maximum amount of goals allowed?

Did UAE enter worldcup? if so when?

The first two minutes sounds sad to me, I assume it was titanic, later on it sounded little like christmas before the the fun part comes in.
