Anyone have feedback on using the FreeYellow.com free webhost? I'm going to move my site from Yahoo! Geocities because of their ridiculous copyright clause. (Forget about Microsoft - Yahoo!'s the real monopoly! :)

Why didn't you like them? Have you visited them lately, and checked whether or not they changed?

For what you're doing, Freeyellow isn't a bad choice. The guys around here disregard a FWP if it doesn't have 50mb and mySQL, so them saying Freeyellow sucks does not make it horrible.
That being said, Freeyellow has some downfalls. They have annoying ads, and if you have a frames site, you get an ad in each frame. They can also be slow, and would probably TOS you for hosting mp3s.
9ug.com allows mp3s I believe (if they're not compyrighted), and has 100mb and a browser upload ability.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't any ads annoying? :)

Not when you think about the service they are providing for free. Storage, LOTS of design, promotion, tools...
Some hosts overdo it though....

I dislike pop-ups too, but at least FreeYellow's aren't in ugly colors, blocking the upper half of your page (like some), and they're in a reasonable size - they aren't so lean, and they pop up in a reasonable place, so you don't have to go chasing around the page like with Tripod...*sigh*...

Can we say banners? They will swamp you with huge banners! You know the whole dotcom companies are going out of business so this is the only way freeyellow would make some quick bucks.
If you want to be hosted on tripod or angelfire which is not the best choice...I will you the code to knock off the banners. Better yet, I am giving everyone a site that will tell you to knock any banners on any servers. It is http://******.*******.net
Note: you might have to refresh the page if it gives you the generic "can't find page"
Fine I deleted the URL out my on posting. I guess everyone loves bombarded banners... Hey all power to ya!

AdvantageCity: That is just plain cheating. Banners are how the webhosts pay their bills for hosting you for free. If you kill their banners, they make no revenue and therefore, they will not host you. Taking off banners are against the terms of service of any host and you will pay dearly when they find out. If you want good no-banners hosting, I suggest you pay for a host.

AdvantageCity, I agree with Coolin. If you cheat a web host, they will no longer make money, and if this becomes widespread, they will be forced to drop their free website hosting services. Plus, it's against most - if not all - free web hosts' terms of service.
Isn't that against the forum rules, too...?

Geesh, anybody with half an --- knows where to find javascript to break the ad banner code. Don't act like you're some damn savior doing everyone a favor.
I don't know if you're blind or just can't put two together, but why do you want to condone cheating companies when you yourself said "You know the whole dotcom companies are going out of business so this is the only way freeyellow would make some quick bucks." Uhm, if freeyellow goes out of business, it ain't gonna do you much good is it?
As for the original question in this thread, (if I remember correctly) I remember that Peo (the webmaster here) used to absolutely hate FreeYellow and he said they were a scam or something. If my memory is wrong, somebody please correct me. That was a long time ago though (maybe 2 years ago), so that might no longer be true.
Addendum - Oh my God that bannerkillers website is so freaking lame. I went there (just for the hell of it), and get this, they have a javascript that forces you to click on an ad banner to enter their site. Geesh, way to practice was you preech. How lame can you get?

No one likes being bombarded with banners, but they make the internet go round, and without them, we'd have to actually pay to get hosting.

I guess everyone is right, I mean I out for a quick buck myself, but ethically I shouldn't be advertising something that might be jepardising the free hosting industry. Who knows it might get around.
I am used to my paying domain hosting ole'deal because a person once said to me about a year ago, "You get what you paid for."
Consideration is the key for today!

I don't love banners, but it's a lot better than jumping from free host to free host because people block the ad banners.

That's precisely why I *don't* use free webspace providers

I started with Freeyellow.com, when i was a newbie webmaster. Thought that their webpage maker was cool back then....and they only had one banner at the bottom.

Personally, I don't care about what most people on these boards seem to like - to be able to upload big files (none of mine are over 1 MB), upload files other than the standard (save small midis or wavs), or CGI/SQL/PERL/etc.
The only reason I would prefer not to go with them is because of the pop-up banners...but at least they aren't like Tripod's or Geocities', where they're long and thin and usually load on the side of the page so you have to drag them over to close them.
