Based on popularity definitely soccer. It seems football (American) is mainly an American sport, or do people from other parts of the world enjoy it too?

football is soccer... the american kind of football is called american football (or ------run ;) )...

football is definitely the bigger sport compared to american football in the world... i think american football is mostly appretiated in the us, same with baseball... there is an american footbal league in sweden where i live, its not a very popular sport though... and people couldnīt care less about baseball though, its like cricket or curling or chess...

I love Soccer. Except Living in the U.S., it's not as advertised as football.

Actually, baseball is so much more popular than American football. Whereas American football is mainly limited to a few countries, baseball is widely played in Central America and the Caribbean islands (probably the most popular sport there), as well as Japan and Korea. Canada plays baseball more than soccer, I would bet.

Soccer isn't really boring. Last year, I thought it was really a boring game so I hardly watched any games on TV and this year my friends influenced me into watching it so I did and now I'm pretty much a soccer fan (although, I love the NBA more)... :)

Soccer I assure you is one of the best sports out there... yeah I may be biased because I have played soccer quite a bit in high school and have always watched games but you gotta take my word on it. :D

I would like to call soccer "football". I mean, its a game where you use your feet to kick around a ball. American football is a game where all carrying of the ball is done with hands, and occasionaly the ball makes contact with a kickers foot.

I learned the other day that there is an NFL Europe league. Just a whole bunch of US College grads wanting to make it into the NFL (like the CFL Canadian Football League). So "American Football" is somewhat spreading throughout the world.

And soccer, is boring. Scores like 1-nil and 2-1 make for a boring 90 minutes. Take away offsides, and it would be much more interesting.

That's crazy. If you take away offsides, the game of soccer won't be soccer anymore. Everyone would probably stay in front of the goal waiting for the ball to arrive so that they can score an easy tap-in.

if you only care about goals you can always watch the highlights after the game... i think the games themselves make for good entertainment...

I enjoy both football and soccer equally(and while I am at it, baseball too). I played them all at one time or another, and if you get me a good game I will watch it(although with soccer games I have to get into it a little bit first).

To me though, you can't beat watching a college football(american) game on a Saturday afternoon while beforehand getting together to eat some good food and talk. But you can't convince me there isn a better sport to play yourself than soccer.

As for Canuckev proposing to rid of offsides, where is the skill in that. Any regular Joe can stand in front of the goal and wait for the ball. Besides, many sports have some sorts of offsides(hockey and football off the top of my head) to prevent teams from positioning players wherever they want to. With offsides, it requires more skill to win, not dumb luck.

What I like about Soccer and most other sports you actually need to have a plan on how to score points.... Canuckkev, you are proposing to remove that objective from Soccer.

YEa yea yea...im not actually saying they should get rid of offsided...I'm just saying there would be more scoring. Strategy would all go out the window though.

Actually, it can be entertaining to watch a game, but when the only goal scored is from a penalty kick...which was undeserved...is boring.

I guess that is the "beauty" of soccer though, as some of you said. It requires more than dumb luck to score a goal (although dumb luck never hurts).

Here in America, Football is Football.

At the high schools here, soccer and football happen at the same time, and what happens is that all the little wimps who can't hang on the football team go play soccer. We call these people 'soccer fags'.

The kids that can't hang on the wrestling team are called 'basketball players' or worse yet... 'indoor track team members.'

Wrestling is the best HS sport there is.

exactly. Though at our local schools football is replaced with rugby.

indoor track is about as low as someone can sink. Unless the school has a golf team.

I have never held anything against the golfers personally untill recently.

I was at a party at a house which bordered one of the greens at the local course.
So many people came that we moved it outside, in the back yard and onto the green. One of the golfers was at the party and started yelling at us to get of the course. He ended up calling the cops and causing the party to be broken up. all this happend before midnight. needless to say, many people are very unhappy with this individual. I'm surprised he didnt get his --- kicked.

As far as I'm concerned, an even more interesting question is which is more dangerous- football or soccer? As a non athlete while in school, I've been injured while playing both. Soccer, once the ball flew right into my face, and chipped a tooth. lol I can envision dying playing American football though.
