Does anyone know a really good host with at least free, unlimited space? I need one.

There is no really good hosts with free unlimited space. Anyway, I'm not going to get into the infamous arguement on how there is no such thing as unlimited and whatnot. The best host you'll find with "unlimited" space is http://www.nbci.com
And if you are using it for WaReZ, and it sounds like you are from the tone of your words in other posts, let me assure you: They will find out.

There are many unlimited free hosts, and many are a lot better than NBCI-because they have no banners. I am just looking for people's opinions on their favorites.

The only free unlimited banner free host you will find is http://www.atomichosting.net/ and they are usually EVEN SLOWER AND LESS RELIABLE THAN CROSSWINDS!!! I'd say that's pretty hard to accomplish! Go to Stas or Crosswinds before you go to Atomichosting!

Please, do name a few hosts that offer "unlimited" space that have lasted for a while with no ads.

Why would anyone use a free unlimited service anyway? They're slower them cold molasses.

Cracker: Atomic Hosting uses a 56k modem to host over 100 sites. What do you expect? ;)

Except for Nbci, but that's probably only because they're rich up to their ears.

Elitecities.com has free webhosting-it's 150MB, and is fast with everything else. I am presently looking at another one, and will tell you if they are better.
Coolin
February 24th, 2001, 17:09
Erm... Elitecities only offers 125megs of space, not 150. Also they are not fast, they are slower than frozen molasses. Also, their FTP doesn't work properly.

I don't think anything with elitecities works properly. At least it didn't for me.

..... you don't know what warez is?!!!???? Sheesh! I thought people started knowing about it since 3rd grade!! *shrugs*
Warez is (supposedly) a fully functional, illegaly hacked/cracked program. Personally, I don't trust warez, 'cause some of the games and apps friends gave me didn't work ----. Like RA2, after you install the thing and play it, you die before the mission even starts! Fuktup..... So, I went and borrowed the full version from another friend who just recently bought it, and burned it. :D
Actually, they claim that the goal of warez is so that you can try out its full version functions and features before you decide to buy it, but IMO that's just pure bull----. Who's gonna go and pay money for the thing when you've already got a fully-functional one at home?

LeX
February 27th, 2001, 23:05
If you really want the program, just go buy it or borrow it from a friend who has it, warez isn't really worth it. You waste hours downloading all the huge files and then it doesn't function properly, or you can't install it, etc. I know, 'cause when I was 8, the time when I first heard about warez from the people at school, was stupid enough to try and download warez gamez. I finally realized what I fool I was at age 9~10, and stopped trying to rely on warez for software.
Webdude
February 27th, 2001, 23:45
Not to mention that 90% of warez sites are fake and give you nothing but 5 popups that each give you 10 more popups, which each of those give you 20 more pops...etc. Then you have to reboot to get out of them. I think the software giants pay them to do that to discourage visits to warez sites...LOL...sheesh, those Top50 sites, etc are probably OWNED by software giants.
And just for the record...warez is wrong, flat out wrong. You people should be shot and hung for even thinking about using illegal software! I never visit warez sites....

true, warez dont always work properly, but most of the stuff I've downloaded works great... haven't found any glitches yet... U just have to know where to look. I recommend filefound.com, they have a list of warez sites, ie sites with no pop ups and with actual warez. so, yeah, go there...

The reason a lot of apps don't work properly is that some programs require a registration code to unlock the full version and it's tougher on some to crack that. Usually programs that work are the result of "bad cracking".
I think the advent of the CD burner has caused the demand for "warez sites" to drop though... It's much easier and "safer" to get it from a friend.

Canuckkev
February 28th, 2001, 22:08
And since when do the mods speak of these things called warez. And cd burning isn't gonna help you if the app costs like $5000 dollars. Not that I have any of those... No one I know actually purchases software other than games. That's the problem with having 15 year old friends, they would rather play Counter-Strike than mess aroud with PhotoShop. Don't get me wrong, if I could get the damn warez version of HL/C-S to work I'd play it too.

Going back to the thread subject after it's gone off for a while will be difficult...
Same here with 15 yr-old friends here, most of them would rather cuddle up with their PSX's than huddle up with PC's. The ones that do play around with PCs play online games, they don't give a damn about Photoshop, in fact, they don't even know what it is!
'Course, there are always one or two friends who are the same kind - the same species as me... so it's all good. :D

That's sad. About how many kids are in your grade anyways? There's about 500 kids in my grade at my school. So the ratio is 1:250... kinda low, don't you think?
Coolin
March 2nd, 2001, 14:22
I live in a small school. There are only about 90 people per grade (30 per class.) The ratio is higher than yours, but there are less people to talk to than yours, so that's bad.

Well, if you want to go back on topic...
I liked bizland.com for awhile. It's only for businesses though, so I left. Then I thought crosswinds would be good. No ads, unlimited space, ftp, no cgi, but I didn't have many scripts that I would like on my site, so I didn't mind. THen after about 50 or so other hosts, I've had my site(s) on Datablocks for awhile, but that pop up is big. I'd rather jsut have a banner on every page. So I'm waiting for CLawz.com to send me back my accepted registration. I's say the host I was on longest was tripod. Don't think that qualifies it to be my favourite host, but I guess I don't have a favourite host. They all are bad and god in their own way.

How do you tell? Try downloading a file off them if you have a high speed connection. If you don't, ask a friend of yours to do it. If the speed is at like 3kb/s, you know it's running off a 56k modem.

I'm also with nbci (www.nbci.com. Their banners aren't so bad. Digitalrice is also on my list, but i never got registred anyway. Waiting for marmoset to go open for new registrations. ms-network has good features, but are closed too.

Could also be that the server is overloaded (gee, FWP, who has experienced this?), or that the line is satuarated. You could run the server off an OC12 but if it is completely saturated, it will feel slower than a 56K line. Point is, you don't know just based on this. Not a bad guess though :)

Not a bad guess though :) A supersaturated OC-12 line is just as bad as a 56k modem. So there isn't any difference. Also, I would like to say that Marmoset is not recommened as it is being hosted on a 486 with a cable connection. What kind of speed are you going to get there?

I have yet to see a site that absolutely must have an unlimited amount of web space unless you are running a warez site or software archive. 100 is more than enough for all sites. If you need more space why don't you either get a paid host or signup for multiple accounts. Hypermart.net and VirtualAve.net give 50 MB each and thats great considering they give you all these other features. I think all sites should give you unlimited space though, it costs only $100 for a 60 GB hd.

VirtualAve has been great for me, I run my own biz site that takes up about 13M,5M being pics & have had really good luck, even when I registered a new domain ,I got quick responses from E-mails & even got a dude on the phone twice within a minute after it wasnt working for 36 hours. It was on within 48. Also, bannerless ads are only $25 for 3 months.I think thats cheap.
