Well, I don't have AT&T@home, but I do have Cox@home, but it's pretty much the same company that runs the service (@home).
Anyway, I have no problems at all with the service. I usually get downloads somewhere around 150-300 KB/sec. The only time I ever get bad speeds is on Napster because some idiots with 56K modems like to list their connectionsas T3, or T1.
A lot of people seem to have a problem with their mail service though. I have not experienced any problems with my @home mail account however.
Just make sure to do a manual installation and *do not* install the @home software. And try not to use their proxy server either. My connection speed is a lot faster when I don't use the proxy.

i get the exact opposite. i'll have people pinging at 20, but are listed as 56k. then when i go to download, it goes at like 100+k/sec. 56k my ---.

Yup. 56k guys listed as T1 and T1 guys listed at 14kbps. At least you can put T1 in and the people that put 14kbps still show up :D.

AT&T@Home? I see something wrong here, why is a telephone company offering cable internet? Shouldn't DSL be their choice?

AT&T bought out a lot of cable companies in the last few years.
Over the last few months AT&T has experienced at least 2 major DNS outages that lasted basically the whole day. Other than that, there's not too much else to say.

Oh great... AT&T had a monopoly on the telephone business. Now it's expanding to cable...

yeah everyone hates their mail server. It runs pretty fast for me except in the evenings ping to places is 100-600 at the worst. I like it ok.

AT&T bought out TeleCommunications Inc. (TCI), a year or two ago. They were one of the largest cable companies in the country.
