Hmmm...first, make sure other noises work :D (Speakers on and volume up)

Then, get into the Sounds and Multimedia settings in Control Panel (Don't know what it's called in XP), then scroll down to "Start Navigation", and it should be pointed to "Start.wav".

In XP Pro, it's in control panel under "Sounds and Audio Devices". Click the "Sounds" tab, scroll down to "Windows Explorer" and "Start Navigation". Start.wav is the default, but you can set it to drive yourself really buggy by using something else :D

If you are just clicking on regular links Windows doesn't actually have a sound for that unless you specify

Most poeple ask how to turn that $#@%^$ thing off :D DO you miss it? If so, click on the mouse buttons a bit harder. Is this answering your question? No? Hmmm.. well to be honest, I turned mine off and it is one of the best improvements I've ever made. My actual suggestion is to try it for a bit and see if the sound of silence brings you happiness.
