...telling those who don't know that post counts don't count in that forum? I'm seeing spattered threads about that, it may be useful to know and less annoying to everyone else.

or mabey in the desc, say Pots Do Not Count here

Actually, that would be even better. People would be more likely to read that than a sticky.

Not many read descriptions...It seems fine this way.

I agree with putting it in the description

Yeah, I agree too.
It needs to be put somewhere on general discussions that posts do not count.

If so, then I'd prefer a sticky.

As for putting it in the description, I doubt that will work. Take the Ads and Offers forum description.....is this too hard to understand?
Ads & Offers
Special offers and ads. One thread per week allowed.
That is all that is there, yet some people still post 2 or three in a week. It is also mentioned in the sticky. Same in the web Hosting Offers forum.
It won't matter what is implemented, people will still ask why post counts aren't rising when they post on General discussions. So I guess the best thing is to smile and answer them politely :classic2:

Come on Jan, this is me, I can only do that for so long. Maybe we can implement some kinda shock therapy :devious2:

Or put an irritating notice on top of the page...
Anyway a description is better than nothing.
Also I don't see much threads about the post count.

Those sticky threads do absolutely nothing, no newbies read them and frequent members post pages and pages of conversation (and discouraging newbies to read them even more). So there's no point in making any more of those stickies.

See... the problem with Stickys is that they are different to normal threads, if you made them look like all other threads (ie, by getting rid of the "Sticky:" bit) but still kept them on top of the other threads more people would click on them.

You know, we could have a sticky...close it right away, so people can't reply to it...and give it a noticeable title. like "READ OR DIE!!!!"
I don't think it'll hurt to put up a sticky.. At least we have something to point to if someone asks.. or at least have it part of a FAQ or something..

A sticky won't do any good, neither will an addition to the FAQ, nor will a notice in the board description. Before entering each board a person could be made to view ten pages of "POST MADE TO THE TEST AND GENERAL BOARDS DO NOT COUNT!" in an ever increasing font size with the emergency broadcast sound playing in the background, and they would still manage not to pay any attention to it. People are like that. I do suggest we carry out Blank Verse's idea, though. A sticky won't prevent people from asking, but it does lend a convenient answer (and it gives an excuse for the regular to vent his anger at the inquisitive newbie).

Well put. That at least helps people understand a little bit.

Let this discussions stop...There is simply no point in arguing. Let's hope Peo or Todd will read this soon.

Dude, no one is arguing. We're simply stating our opinions.
It's been added to the description now. If it's asked over and over again, at least it's not at the top of the forum all the time, as a sticky would be.

does it matter whether post counts or not? i mean, what's the point of increasing the "post count" number?

Well, I do agree, I'm just tired of thread after thread of people wondering why their post counts are not going up.
