Ok, I am starting to get a little stressed with this whole hosting issue. I have two hosts that I have narrowed it down to, and I can't decide which one to go with! Both seem great, and both have nice support, plans, etc.

So, could I get some feedback and reasoning from you people? Please? It would be really helpful, and I'd really appreciate it.

http://www.canadadream.net - removed from choices
http://www.alwayswebhosting.com

Btw, I live in the US, but that shouldn't really matter O_o Also, this will be a gaming site, and I will be needing a lot of space/bw... so... yeah.

I don't know anything about AlphaOmegaHosting, but I have heard bad things about Canadadream.net. For example, they were liars when they claimed to offer "unlimited" transfer for their free host. If they use such dishonest practices with free hosting, I wouldn't trust their paid hosting at all. Their support is OK, and their server speeds are average. However, there are many other cheaper hosts that offer a lot of transfer as well. :)

Thank you, I really appreciate your post.

Thanks a lot for telling me about CanadaDream - that has streered me away from purchasing hosting from them. So, that leaves:

http://www.alwayswebhosting.com

What do you (and everyone else) think about them, and what they have to offer...?

And btw, you said that there are a lot of other hosts who offer lots of transfer as well... so if you can think of some... would you mind possibly sharing them with me? Only quality ones of course ;)

Thanks in advance!
-I hope.

Okay, I cleaned up the irrelevant posts, now can we stick to the original thread topic please. Jed is doing comparisons of two hosts, not asking for suggestions of others. Thanks.

Thanks Jan. I am, however, looking for suggestions of other hosts ONLY if they have a reputation for being good, and offer equally good/or better packages than the two hosts I listed.

Try Valcato (http://www.valcato.net/)?
They offer some of the cheapest hosting plans around and have good support, good uptime, etc. The plans provide you with some decent amount of space and high bandwidth. I've been with them for nearly two months now.

Looking back on FWS posts of webgod2001, he seems to have had a few hosting services in the last 12 months. What happened to them????

You also seem to be the only one promoting them Grin

I think it was ASP2.net.
Yeah, I'm probably the only one promoting them right now since this place has been taken over by Myacen (whom I'm also using). :D

Your post was not relevant in any way. He was asking for a comparison, and that's what you should offer. As I said (don't know if you read this section before Jan edited it), I personally don't like any of the hosts you listed, not to mention that two of them did not offer a feasible alternative (he needed a lot of transfer).

As for CanadaDream, someone used up 40 GB transfer on their supposedly "unlimited" free package, and they got an e-mail saying their account was deleted due to exceeding their transfer quota by 35 GB or something. :confused2

well .... my post [b]WAS[b/] relevent ...

however , i understand .... you want him to waste money .. thats fine by me ...

Alwayswebhosting offers up to 60GB ?

does he need more than that

I use AWH amonst other hosts .. i 've had no major problems since server10 was hacked ... just after i had transfered ( my luck eh  )

Anyhow .. i'm sure if you CHECKED myacen would do a deal and so would hostnexus ... but its not my JOB to make enquireys

i'm only being helpful in stopping this forum member wasting money and getting screwed later on

But if you look at the current choices uptop, one of them IS http://www.alwayswebhosting.com - which is also your current host. I am really close to going with them... but the only thing that's making me skeptical is the following thread in their forum:

O_o

Hi All,

Let me draw up a list of my internet activities over the last year:

1) 'UK+ Networks' was created in my spare time, I used Cyberscript.net's free hosting software to offer 500Kb free hosting accounts.

2) 'UK+ Networks' becomes 'Asp2.Net' - A free host offering 5Mb of space to visitors for free. At this time we also began to sell low priced upgrades, for example to purchase a MySQL database, more space, or remove the banners from your page.

3) Asp2.Net became a reseller for DonHost. Funded by my part time job and income from hosting a couple of professional sites, we continued to offer free hosting in return for banner ads.

4) Asp2.Net ceased to accept new free hosting signups, and began to offer paid packages at regular prices.

5) After problems with DonHost, we moved to reselling for Ghoulnet. This worked well for a while, but continuing confusion about how we got our name, and links to the ASP technology meant we needed to rebrand.

6) Valcato Internet Services was launched, reselling for Splash Host. It was around this time that we decided that if we dropped our prices, we would generate more signups and in turn more revenue than we would if we kept our prices high. The infamous "We can beat ANY offer!!" post was born on freewebspace.net.

7) Since the price drop, we quickly outgrew our reseller account and moved to a dedicated server from Burst.Net's new Nocster range. (hence the change from valcato.com to valcato.net)

8) Valcato Internet Services has gone from strengh to strengh recently, and profits have skyrocketed. Needless to say, "business longevity" is not an issue!!

Oh, one more more answer to a frequently asked question, yes, we do support FTP ;)

If the high server load makes you so uncomfortable, then why don't you change hosts?

Plus, they have 11 servers now... and they get more when they need 'em.

What are you talking about? You said: "that's a high server load, you should move to http://www.invisionboard.com"

So, basically, you were telling me to get hosted by invisionboard... because otherwise, what you said didn't make one bit of sense. That topic I showed you at AWH was about a previous client of theirs - not me. So maybe you should have said "he should switch to InvisionBoard"... if that's what you were implying... because the way you did say it, made no sense.

Bah
