View Full Version : Bottom line on reliable hosts

Ok I've spent over an hour (or more) reading all the threads about good hosts but I would really like to know the bottom line for all of you who use free hosts. I need:

cgi access (maybe more features later)
reliable ftp access
at least 20MB space
*good uptime and speed*
hopefully domain hosting
pop3 email?

I won't be using this for anything illegal or anything. I am currently on digitalrice but their uptime is sporatic and slow. I am also using mydomain (zoneedit was worse) but I would rather have a host that provides domain hosting since the added frame from mydomain messes up some code on my page (the resizing of my window, dependant on a user's resolution, and no, not to full screen :P ). I can live with a banner as long as the server is reliable. So far I've come up with these suggestions from your posts:

datablocks.net
f2s.com
hypermart.net
spites.com
bigstep.com (nbci.com)
comvision2000.com

f2s seems a little slow (as does comvision). I've also been on crosswinds (when it was ad-free), freeservers, spaceports, etc. I have a personal site setup on freespecch.org. I like them (good ftp, speed is ok for reg pages) but they don't have cgi (although they have free realvideo/audio streaming). I have switched among many hosts this yr alone and I hate discovering the fact that their web (or mail) server is either down or insanely slow by the amount of returned emails I get.

Thanks in advance

I have had a site with virtualave.net (Hypermart sister company) and they have been real steady for months. I'd recommend them or Hypermart.

just that I don't really like the text ads under the banner :/ it's ruin my site.
