www.blubster.com :) A forum member has this site and it is rapidly growing in popularity. AND he wouldn't stoop to spyware as a few others do

How about Blubster? lol..

The only problem is that blubster only shares music files though :)

If you can find a hub with people with the same interests etc as you in direct connect you will be sorted, but if not, winmx is a very good alternative to kazaa, if you do use, search google for napmx and you get access to even more files :)

Napster :D yeah, no...

personally, with Audiogalaxy kicking the bucket, I'd just stick with Imesh. WinMX is so slow, even on high speed connections.

you have to watch out on iMesh for any file with two file extensions (eg filename.mp3.vbs) as people appear to love spreading varients of the love letter virus!

it has been more than a year. but i still think it wouldn't succeed. people won't pay to download music

I would.

Lot's of people pay to have access to newsgroups and download many things, including mp3's.

Has anyone tried the new Morpheus? I think 1.9 is out or something. Hopefully it's a helluva lot better than the preview edition or whatever of 2.0.

If I'm gonna pay for music, I'm just going to by the CD. In most cases, I do that anyway. You get a lot more that way.

I seriously just cannot justify paying 16-$18 for a CD. Maybe if they were cheaper I'd buy them, but until then...

CD's are only ~$14/15 Canadian here...
That's like 20 cents US...

Cheaper than in Maine...

[EDIT]Ok, nevermind, it seems the prices have raised from the last time I checked.

I was gonna say, it's hard to buy CD's for less than 18 bucks here.

Actually, you can get most CD's here for $20 (US$11) or $25 (US$13.9) ...or at the most $30 (US$16). :)

Well, making backup copies of your audio CD's is legal.

And back to the topic...

Yeah, Kazaalite is good. No spyware, but still functions as good as Kazaa.

I think they are currently offline though. Since Audiogalaxy died, it has became too popular. But they are rebuilding.

Of course, if you have a decent connection, usenet works quite well.

The band makes no money when you download their songs off the interweb. If you like the band enough to enjoy their music, I don't see what is wrong with actually buying it.

I like to buy music to support bands and record labels that I support.

http://victoryrecords.com
Great NYHC label... also features Catch 22

http://epitaph.com
The record label started by Bad Religion. Need I say more?

http://fatwreck.com
Fat Mike from NOFX's label. Great bands. NOFX is on Epitaph records though.

http://g7welcomingcommittee.com
Propagandhi's label. Features The Weakerthans. Propagandhi is on Fat Wreck Chords, ironic isn't it?

http://newredarchives.com
Great for old stuff. Christ on a Crutch just can't be beat. And Dave Grohl was in that band.

http://kungfurecords.com
The Vandals record label.

http://nitrorecords.com
The Offspring's (Well, Dexter's) record label. Offspring started out on Epitaph.

hear hear. Actually, I've found I've bought a lot of CD's after downloading MP3s. So I think it works hand in hand that way.

Technically, Epitaph was formed by Mr. Brett. not a big deal, but if we're saying Nitro belongs to Dexter, we have to say Epitaph belongs to Brett Gureweitz. But who's arguing? :p

There are a few labels I'd like to add to that list.

http://www.byorecords.com/
around since 1982, started by Youth Brigade. has Youth Brigade (duh), One Man Army, and Pinhead Circus.

www.dischord.com
started by a couple of guys from the Teen Idles, who eventually came to be Minor Threat, who are legends. also features Fugazi and Dag Nasty.

www.vagrant.com
Rockets From the Crypt, Alkaline Trio and Face to Face are all on this label.

Sigh... must we argure about this? Yes.

The record label was formed by the whole band, with Brett's dad signing for the loans. The business aspect was run by Brett and Jay. Since Brett was spending all the money on crack, Jay decided to leave, and BR went to Atlantic. Brett does own it now though.
