Edmilson - Ferdinand - H. Myung-Bo

Couldn't think of any outstanding defenders, these were the best ones I can remember.

football has 11 players, not 12 :D

Ashed
July 6th, 2002, 16:30
I accidentally put in Sas... :D
Diouf needs to be there because he played extremely well, just didn't get to score any goal. :(

murat
July 6th, 2002, 16:34
maybe, but he is forward so he have to shoot goals
i didnt like klose, but he made goals
and roberto carlos is defender i think

Ashed
July 6th, 2002, 16:41
R. Carlos and Cafu were playing as midfielders since Brazil was playing 3-5-2.

Klose did score goals but most of them were from the early stages especially the hat-trick from the Saudi Arabia match. He didn't score any in the knock-out stages (I think).

But you can't say Diouf played bad. In fact, he played really well. He helped his teammates in scoring goals like what Heskey does. :D
It was a little hard for him to score, too, since they let him play alone up front, like what Turkey did with Hakan Suker. Suker didn't score any goals until they played him along side Ilhan. :)

murat
July 6th, 2002, 17:17
too bad that we didnt play in the brazilgame with Sükür and Ilhan Mansiz
maybe there would be a other champion now :crysad:

most of you got pretty good picks, however i would put in ronaldinho instead of like klose (he really isnt that good... those goals were lucky because saudi arabia was really weak and he got to score those then). for defenders i wouldnt use brazil ones (like lucio or r.junior) i think they really arent so good... brazil got good forwarders and midfielders but not defenders. and yeah cafu and roberto carlos should be midfielders so.. but i can't think of any good defenders right now.

for goalkeeper yes kahn is probably right but no rustu for sure. i would pick sylva (senegal) for substitute... or maybe even main. i actually think sylva was better than kahn..

I don't know about the rest, but Kahn is the kickass goalkeeper

The Red Guy
July 6th, 2002, 22:02

Rustu Recber

Beckham doesn't play on the left flank.

Kahn got best player of world cup award or something like that. He deserved it, and Korea got most entertaining team award. I kinda agree on both of those.

I'd like to flank Beckham :devious2: I can't stand him. He's still got a great shot, but man, I'd like to kick him in the teeth.

Plus, I can't believe somebody actually said Klose isn't that good.

He might be a good player but just because he scored 5 goals (all came from the first stage) that doesn't make him a good player... He didn't help the team much in the knock-out stages.

ok...when all of you are scoring 5 goals in a world cup tournament, you can tell me Klose sucks, but for now, I think we really can't say anything. It is hard to be an elite player on an elite team after all, unless you just happen to be born in Brazil.

So you know about all the dedication, the training, the path to him getting there, how much he has to practice, etc, etc...Let's face it, Germany is an elite team (teams that aren't elite don't make it to the World Cup Finals), and next to Kahn, Klose was one of their best players. You can't be a ----ty player and be in his position, I'm sorry, it just doesn't work like that.

Umm .. Germany isn't an "elite" team .. just all the other "elite" teams just didn't seem to play as well as they should have .. i think ballack was alot better the klose

Kahn was very good aswell ... but kahn is just good anyways ...

I know about dedication , i know about training ... but i don't know much about him ... he was lucky to be in the team ... but i guess he was lucky enough to reward the manage with his selection ...

i don't think he is that good .. he hasn't scored with his feet yet

But lets see how he does in the euro 2004 comp

Are you trying to say scoring a goal off a header is a cheap goal? I don't think so. It takes timing and coordination. Plus having to avoid the skulls of defenders also going for the ball. Therefore a player who scores goals with his head does not make him any less talented than one who scores goals with his feet.

I don't think you can say he was lucky to be on the team when you admitted you don't know much about him.

Germany is an elite team. They may not have been as good as they always were, but once you reach the World Cup finals, you are elite. Regardless of whether it's your first time there or your hundreth. You don't get there by losing.

Good players have to step up when their team needs them. Klose didn't step up and that is why he scored 0 goals in the knock-out stages. Kahn was a great player, he saved numerous goals (although Rustu saved like 20 more :D) when the game was on the line, too bad he kind of messed up in the final against Brazil. If Klose continued to score more goals, I would really praise him as an elite player.

Blank Verse
July 9th, 2002, 15:41
I also think it's bull---- to blame Kahn for that goal.

murat
July 9th, 2002, 23:57
id say it was kahns mistake
he played well alll the worldcup, but noone is perfect, but this goal was kahn only mistake in this worldcup

Blank Verse
July 10th, 2002, 01:33
OK, first of all, the defender...should have passed the ball, didn't, tried to get fancy with it, instead coughs it up...WITHIN THE EIGHTEEN YARD BOX! Then, Rivaldo gets a free shot (I think it was Rivaldo, but come on, it's Brazil, whoever shot it is a talented player), Kahn at least made the save, all he's asked to do. Then...nobody picks up Ronaldo....RONALDO!!! Who in their right mind would leave the top scorer and arguably best player in the world uncovered? He could have ----ed it up and still scored from where he was.

I don't know, maybe it's just a European thing to use goaltending as a scapegoat for a loss, but that doesn't fly in North America.

murat
July 10th, 2002, 02:29
the ball was in his hands, but he didnt cought it

Blank Verse
July 10th, 2002, 02:33
He stopped the ball. There's really not much more you can be asked to do on a shot hit full force from so close in.

Ashed
July 10th, 2002, 11:38
Haha, S-League. There are quite a few Thai players playing there, right? :D

I would blame Kahn for the goal, that shot was straight with no curve at all with quite a lot of power. Kahn should be able to catch that one with ease. He saved many more difficult goals in his entire career, that's why he's the best in the world at what he does. It wasn't his fault he messed up, anyone can mess up. Too bad it was in the final against Brazil.

Beckham plays on the right, just thought I'd remind ya ;)

Also, there's many other things that are kinda wrong in the thread like the many people that put R.Carlos and Cafu in the midfield or misplaced them in the defense, and many many other things.

R. Carlos and Cafu were playing midfield in this World Cup. They were playing 3-5-2, not 5-3-2.
