http://www.myrealbox.com free, fast, super fast, no ads, 10mb storage (hotmail is 2mb), pop3 & web-based, less spam than hotmail!
It's free because it is a "showcase" site for Novell's mail systems and as such is occasionally down for 1-2 hours for upgrades. Highly recommended! Rated 5 smilies: :D :D :D :D :D

That is rare. I opened an accout about two months ago, never gave my e-mail to anyone, and I still get 2 porn messages a day! but i still wouldnt use it kuz its microsoft and they only give 2mb while yahoo gives 6. So far, yahoo seems the best.
Arg, I can't register at myrealbox.com because i lost my password to my isp e-mail. :(

if you do not like the domain name you could always get a free adless url director. for example a good one is http://www.n2v.net so you go there sign up and enter the url of your web site. then use the clocking feature at n2v so then whenever someone enters www.namehere.n2v.net it will redirect them to your site at twisted-reality but the name in the address bar will always stay www.namehere.n2v.net . http://dr.ag
go to: http://www.shortURL.com
and click on [Member Login] or go directly there with this URL:
http://www.shorturl.com/login.shtml
Please note that there are many options that can be changed in the members
section (http://www.aliasnames.com/memberlogin.asp). Items that can be
changed include the title of the site (appears in the browser title bar),
search engine keywords, ad types, etc.

As we all know, web-based email sucks. Hey...if you want to go to the site, login, type username, & type your password everyday...day in...day out....month in...month out....year in...year out, be my ghost.
The rest of us will simply enter our usernames and passwords once, just once, and only once. Then, everyday, we simply click one button and read our spam. :o

Yeah, well, that's pretty much the only kind of e-mail we can get for free these days. Three years ago, there were lots of free POP3/SMTP email services, but then the spammers came and screwed that up.

There are a few other nice ones I know too:
http://www.burntmail.com - web-based only, but no ads ANYWHERE. May become paid service in the future but free for now.
http://www.gmx.net - POP3 and SMTP, but in German. 10MB, web-based access also available. I personally like this one best.
http://www.bored.com - No big deal
http://www.actcute.com - No big deal
Some others I haven't tried...
http://www.address.com/main.asp?p=inbox
http://www.alloymail.com
http://www.amuro.net
http://www.canada.com
http://www.anfmail.com - doesn't allow you to pick your own username, or so I've heard
http://www.geeklife.com
Sure there are plenty of others out there. If you're looking for a web-based email, I say Burntmail. Otherwise, and if you can read German, go for GMX.

15 MB of space for your email and I don't get any spam; people only spam Yahoo and Hotmail.

That is a rather broad statement.
People get spam whenever they leave any email address for public viewing, when they buy a domain, when they sign up for shonky newsletters, the list goes on...I never use my private email for any of the above, and I sure won't sign up for anything anymore.
The spambots are out in force gathering email addresses from where ever they can....Lycos is not immune from it.

I would have to second the notion for www.fastmail.fm
great service, just check their own forum at
http://www.emailaddresses.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=17
I recommend this service to everyone that I know that's interested in changing email providers. I've liked it so much that i've signed up for a member acct which gives you additional perks, but the free acct is really good too. check it out and give it a shot.

ohh.. forgot to mention that www.fastmail.fm has like over 50 domains or so for you to choose from. Not sure if free acct allows alias but i'm a big fan of this feature as well as their "bounce" feature.. all good stuff :)
