Check out http://www.fdcservers.net/pricinghdd.htm. I'm not sure what it is.

Is it a virtual server? Can I just upload gigantic files on it and let people download daily from it? It says unmetered though. :confused2

What kind of host uses java apps?? anyway...

Looks more like a hard drive co-location data storage thingy then a virtual server. All you get is FTP access. I think it's aimed more towards remote backups via your own hard drive then what you want, to serve files.

"UN-METERED BANDWIDTH / TRANSFERS" ahhhhhhhhh.... the fresh smell of BS. I'm sure their version of "UN-METERED BANDWIDTH / TRANSFERS" and what your thinking to use it for are two diffrent things ;) Your better off with a set limit provider then with a un-metered/unlimited as your version of the service and theirs can, most of the time not be the same and you as the customer lose.

Yeah, they're too good to be true.

That other message board you directed me to showed me a great host.

Thanks a lot for all your help.

I think without anyone actually signing up (although somehwere in these forums I saw the link to that site so someone must have), nobody should. If they're already causing problems, I don't think anyone should bother with them.

I know that there are quite a few fdc users on WHT, so may be you can search for information there. fdc or fdcservers (plus fdcservers.com and http://fdcservers.com and http://www.fdcservers.com) should pull up the past discussions.

Thanks for the info Chicken. I didn't think that they could be too great just by looking at them due to the really nice deals they have. I did a search (here) on them, and it comes out that they aren't too great. That's just what I've seen.

Although the offer is good, and it seems to do what I'd like it to do they're connections are supposedly really slow and the people working there can be trouble sometimes.

I've found a great webhost for $10 more, and with them I can atleast resell any extra space I don't need for websites. You sure can't do that with an FTP. It's not unmetered, but 450GB a month of Cogent bandwith should be good enough for me...now to look up Cogent quality.

$10 more?? So $79/month for 450 GB?? Hmmm, cogent bandwidth is .16 to .33 per GB, so....

.16 x 450 = $72 a loss of $7
.33 x 450 = $148.50 a loss of $69.50

If cogent jacks up the price, it'll be more then that!

I think you bought, or will be buying from a host that oversells, or has no clue how much bandwidth costs.

The thing is that WHT has a ton of crappy RS (or cogent) resellers that have no clue how much bandwidth costs. From the numbers above, the host would lose and end up closing down.

Plus, a dedicated server is only $20 more per month ;)

Just my 2 cents :)

I see your point. Well, he's a pretty reputable guy on their forums. I'll have to do some research behind his back though. He does offer premium tier 3 bandwith, but you only get 150GB. I don't really know which is better, but if you think about it most people never hit more than 200kb/s off of websites anyway so if Cogent is just a little slower, I'll take it.

He could be making his money other ways too. He sells IPs in blocks of 10 on a pay-per-month basis. That couldn't offer too much though. He does have a lot off different upgrades though.

This is a dedicated server too. I don't really want to go with RackShack if I can honestly get it cheaper by $20 a month. Plus RackShack doesn't have a huge lineup of servers available right now.

I do see your points though and I'll really need to relook his offers over again.
