Hello, and welcome to the FreeWebspace.net Community! :cool:
People here use different hosts because they have different sites needing different requirements. There are not many hosts that offer unmetered (that's what I'm sure you meant to say ;) ) bandwidth, but these are two from the top of my head:
http://free.hostingextreme.com/
http://www.web1000.com
I doubt that these sites allow hotlinking, b/c when you hotlink, you are actually stealing the hosts bandwidth from them. That's why it's always good to make a page where you can host the download file and then link the page instead of the file. I'm not sure about the nice support as well, free hosting companies don't make that much money if they make anything at all, and it's hard to hire a support staff for free. :)
But as far as your 40Mb space and unmetered traffic request, I believe those hosts will do nicely for you.

Loads pretty fast for me, and they should fairly reliable. But as with any web host responding to a reliability question...if you want to have reliability, go with a paid host. ;)
Good luck with your site! :D

:) Dream On. Seriously look into paid hosting budday.
You want a fast and reliable host, that makes NO MONEY from your hotlinking. Rather greedy if you ask me.

Does any site really NEED hotlinking? And there is no "great free host that everyone uses."
However, as for the "unmetered" traffic, do I really need to make a list of all the free hosts that offer it?
http://www.crosswinds.net/
http://www.t35.com/
http://www.freewebsites.com/
http://www.web1000.com/ --> No ads
http://free.prohosting.com/
http://www.dreamwater.com/
http://www.justfree.com/
http://www.coolfreepages.com/
http://www.fateback.com/ --> No ads
http://www.megspace.com/
http://www.host.sk/ --> No ads
and the list goes on!

I don't think a member of fws.net should be bashed or insulted for posting a request at freewebspace forum.
If someone does not offer it ( eg the amt of space, feature, traffic..etc), then just don't reply.
There is no need to tell people off or question people's reason for requesting.:)
