i got a win xp setup disk from my friend which comes with the dell laptop he bought,i want to install the win xp with this disk,but how can i get the product id?if you know,please reply or send me a mail,my email nope

IIRC, you have to phone Microsoft so they can give you a product id, but if you got your disk for free from a friend, that might bring you into trouble.

The software is free, the license is not. Your friend needs to get you the one that came with it. Look for the book that came with it. Otherwise, he needs to contact Microsoft. The license also says it's good for one computer only. So he may have the legit one on his compauter, but once you install it on your using either his serial or one from elsewhere, it becomes piracy.
