Just a beginner

I am trying to learn how to transfer files across the net to my family and friends.
This has been a very difficult task for me to achieve.
If anyone has done this before with good results please let me know how.
This trial and error method is tedious.

Set up an FTP Server like Serv-U.
The software is easy to learn.
