View Full Version : 4 days away from freedom

That's right, on Thursday, I will finally be done my ----hole job. About time too, everything there was starting to drive me crazy. My manager, the customers, the one ----- I seem to always work with (even though I got like 4 of my friends hired there; one of whom got fired for no good reason), it goes on and on. At first I thought working at a liquor store would be kind of fun, and it was. At first, we had no business, it was real slow, you could slack off a lot, I had a cool manager at the time, and it was really a lot of fun. But it gets depressing after a while. There are so many alcoholics in my town, it kind of gives you a negative feeling about the state of the world. Then we get regulars. Then they get -----y. They complain about the stupidest ---- too.
Example: Woman comes up to the till with a flat of AGD (cheap beer, you can get 18 for $16, sweet deal in my province.) She got it from the cooler in the back, doing what so many other customers do, ignoring the rollers on the side where you can obtain the beer easier, not get cold, and actually see the price. Anywho, this woman comes with the flat, and says "How much is this?" "$24.60" "Hold on, I can get a 12 pack of this in Calgary for $8.99" (no she can't)...then she sits there and looks at me. "And..." "How much is one here?" "$12.10" "well, I'm not buying this, this is bull----. What kinda ----ing business are you running here?" "A successful one, thank you,"
This kinda ---- happens everyday. I'm tired of the customers who need to argue to someone about anything, and the only ones they can find are the anonymous liquor store employees, who hear their ---- everyday.
But no more. Well, 4 days anyway. I'm so pumped. I've been counting down the days since June.

In BC, Liquor store employees make around $18-25/hour! Do you make that kind of money?
Since our place is Chinese food, it's pricey, because of the huge amounts of meat you get (reasonable) but people complain ALL the time. They ask, "Are you sure?" "Is it that much", "No, I didn't order that!", "I've got a Combo #2 ($5.09)" - They actually have a 3 Item ($6.29)
- I KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE IN FRONT OF MY FACE, I DO WORK HERE YOU KNOW! I RING IN THE SAME STUPID THING 100 TIMES A DAY, I KNOW WHAT IT IS BY NOW!
geez people are stupid.

Geez...$18 an hour to work in a liquor store. I would want to work there. :p
I could probably make like $8 an hour teaching English or piano over here. The problem is that you would probably make only half of that working in a McDonald's here and even less in the average Chinese restaurant. People are cheap here, and you just don't get paid a lot unless you're some businessman (which is, of course, restricted to adults with experience, meaning, I'll still need at least another 20 years before I get such a job).

Oh Hell no! Liquor stores are privatized in Alberta, so conglomerate corporations like Safeway can ---- their employees around. I only make $7/hour. Minimum wage is so much less here cause it's nowhere near as expensive as the rest of the country.

Blank, you have a gun, for 'protection' right? Well, use the 'gun' as a deterent..play around with it, throw it in the air, just like you don't care. Take the safety off and shoot some customers in the toes!

Uh...actually, no. I figure I'll just crack open a few brews before the shift on Thursday is over. Plus, the stupid customers (and there are a lot of them) get no mercy from me. I will mock them til they can be mocked no longer.

But then I'd have to move to B.C. :p
Actually, I have to quit anyway, cause I'm moving to Ottawa for university at the end of the month. The commute would be a -----. But even if I wasn't leaving, I'd still quit.
And yeah, you know how violent us Canadians are, we're packing heat 24/7. I sleep with a gun under my pillow.

Have you ever tried living in the urban rural areas of downtown Montreal? You got all sorts of crazy people and gangs. My friend had to keep a shotgun under his bed.

Actually, yes, but only until I was 8. There are places in Calgary I wouldn't want to live either. Whitehorn, Bowness, these are scary places. I don't know where Canuckkev lives, but I'm sure he knows what I'm talking about. But I'm talking about just Canadians in general. Most of us are pretty level headed, I think, but that probably goes the same for every country. We just have the reputation.

Because the police in UK has no guns, it would be possible to hold up a bank with a bb gun.

One good thing about America, standard minimum wage.
Currently $5.15 USD
That is $8.09 CAD
Also:
$9.47 AUS
$5.27 EUR
$18.69 ARS (Argentina Pesos)

That's also about 42.59 RMB...I'm surprised the Argentinian peso is actually doing well. I thought their economy was pathetic. :P
The minimum wage is a good thing and a bad thing. It causes companies who want to make their products cheaper to go overseas, resulting in more unemployment. In the US, if you wanted one worker to work 1 hour a day, everyday, you'd have to pay them more than 15,500 RMB a year. In China, you can have them work 6 hours everyday and you'd only have to pay each one 5,000 RMB a year. These companies can slice costs by a third simply by going overseas. They probably could cut costs even more by going to a country in Africa. This is why the minimum wage is hurting Americans, despite the obvious benefits.

I think minimum wage in Alberta is the lowest in Canada, but them you have to consider, we're doing really well economically, so things costs less, and we have a lot less tax compared to the rest of the country.

They'll probably at least allow it so that you can buy beer and liquor in the same store. I always thought that was really dumb.
Oh, BTW, today was my last night. I did next to no work and lipped off every customer that was rude or tried to make a stupid joke.
And now I'm free, and I'm happy.
