There is no better host than http://www.hypermart.net / http://www.virtualave.net. Seeing as they are both exactly the same. With the new 50 MB limit I dare you to try and find a better free host.

Dare? Sure.
http://www.worldzone.net - 100 megs and banner at the bottom
http://www.f2s.com - CGI/PHP/HTACCESS/MySQL/Frontpage Extensions/etc..., 20 megs, no banners
http://www.gcsnet.net - 100 megs, pop-behind (no banners as of now though), and millions of features.
Did I ruin your dare?

Worldzone only has 50 meg now. And they dont have FTP :(
They still rock though.
I hate the ads with virtualave and hypermart... the popups are crap, and the banners on your page... have a big heap of text under it

Actually, Worldzone still offers 100megs. Webdude said that he seemilingly changed it to 50megs just to appease his board of directors. It was posted here somewhere, but I couldn't find it. Anyway, was what he said true? Or was he sarcastic. I don't know, let's let him tell us.

NO FTP, NO CGI, NO PHP, 1GB Bandwidth/mo.
...not better than HM/VA.

SLOW
If they could speed up they'd beat HM/VA.

POP-UPS ARE BAD, new host and will most likely cut back or die.

Actually I kinda thought that many free web hosts
need Pop-up ads to survive, what with the poor
banner market and all... Don't know if pop-behinds
are any good though.
PS - Nick - how did you manage to quote the previous posts?
I can't seem to find anything in my profile related to
this...
<edit:> nevermind - I saw the button after I posted. :)

Yes, Coolin, what I said was true.
PHP and CGI may make a comeback, but ftp will never be. It just wasnt built to offer it :-(

Nothing wrong with popbehinds, especially gcsnet.net. They have a 72 hour cookie between pops. You see an ad once and you don't see it again for a few days :)

I too like Hypermart and VirtualAve. Don't forget that they have the option for domains.

I took a look at f2s because I'm currently using virtualave and I hate the popups. But, f2s does not allow .zip or .exe file to be loaded on their server. That might not matter to some but I want to offer programs that I have written for download on my site.
Some hosts are bad enough limiting me to 2meg file sizes. But, to not allow any .zip or .exe at all, that is plain rediculous.
If you really believe f2s is even a good host then I'll have to disagree.
So far, the best host that I'm concidering is digitalrice.

Nah, you can CHMOD with a FileMager, but FTP is far superior :D.

I wanted to host a few of my smaller sites at WZ but the PHP and CGI taken away turned me off. Please bring them back :D!

Doesn't HM/VA have pop-ups/banners? ... so what is the difference from gcsnet.net ... ? I would have to tel ly outhat gcsnet and worldzone is prob one of the best hsots around ... not that i dont like HM/VA ... I have a few sites on VA ... but their not the only best ones ... I would have to say gcsnet.net and worldzone.net are good .. and if f2s.com was just a bit faster ... i would say their the best too..
