My favorite free guestbooks that I've used on free webpages and on sites I've created for other people has been by Phaistos http://guestbooks.netservices.gr/
I used them because they're very reliable and fully customizable. The most valuable feature is allowing the ability to edit the fields.

Is there a very reliable, fully customizable (including field editing) guestbook that allow you to share banner space?

Yeah, they are my new favorite guestbook. I used to like GuestWorld before they became HTMLGear
