Hello,
Nice to be here to the group.

May I ask please, which free sites allow swf

( flash player) files?

I tried the advanced search function on the main site
here - but it didnt seem to have an option for this
request.

2. Also, if you know of any sites, are they any good?

( ie fast, no downtime, etc) Also, I prefer banners
at the bottom.

Is there a way to search the free site directory for this
info?

thanks and love

Kathy

As long as you implement the correct 'flash tags' into your html documents it will work on every host as it does not depend on a specific server support but is supported within the html standards.

Actually, if you mean that a server could block files that end i.e. with .swf , hmmm, yes, it is possible as well as you can block exported CSS and Javascript Files but it would make no sense and I barely believe that any host (if free or not) would block those...

All 3 of my free server hosts wont take swf files!

When you try and upload in the browser - you get message

"file not allowed!"

Under their faqs they list the obvious file upload types
jpeg etc.

Every flash site webmaster has to upload swf and html.

What servers are those? Every FWP that I've been to allowed flash files (Internettrash, angelfire, hypermart, crosswinds, stas, f2s)

Usually that are hosts that use those ----ty web interfaces to manage your sites, those do not allow other file types like .gif .jpg .htm and .html, look for one that gives you Full Ftp Access to your remote directory.

Iīd suggest you go with http://www.f2s.com, they are banner free, quite reliable and for sure allow any types of files (even support Perl and you can have a database and so on ...)

It takes like 24 hours until they set up your account.

Thanks for replys guys -

yes, I guess the hosts all have that simple web interface.
But I really prefer that to ftp ( seems faster and more
reliable)

But I know they have other names for their server services
(paid) and must host swf on those. Why they limit on the free services is beyond me.

I'd venture to guess though that over 50% of the free hosts listed in the main directory here wont upload swf files.

As for your suggestions - internet trash? Are they any
better when they had the absolute MOST OBNOXIOUS BANNER
in web history - it scrolled down the page with your mouse
- uggghhh.

I think I tried one or two of the others. Problem is
those well known hosts can be soooooooo...sloooowwww,
right? And some weird uploading rules.

Then unless you use redirects, you get those overworn
names: angelfire ( makes me think of lousy homepages),
for example.

I dont trust redirects. Sometimes they
ban your site for no reason, other times for good
reason - spam ( laughing - but, hey, whats a girl to do
to promote a site? )

I dunno, guess thats why I've liked some of the off name hosts. Faster speed - and easy signup.

Who the heck wants to wait 24 hours + for signup?

Or fill out 100 lines of BS - then find their damn
form wont send.???

Well enough ranting. Any more ideas for me?

If not, Thanks, might try the f2, if thats the best one from all your opinions.

Love and kisses

Kathy

well, nice post ;)

( actually itīs my 100th :D ) anyone would like to share some beer with me? Haha. K, kinda scrupulous, I know....

Hm, why shouldnīt you wait for 24 hrs + ?
I mean, when I asked for my paid hosting space it took up 2 months! At least it was worth to wait.

According to any reliable, fast and ad free hosts.....hmmm.... I wish I could name a few, maybe you should look around where you live, sometimes local providers have nice offers .....

Uh, Iīm tired (1:30 am here), good n8 @all.

farewell

I just tried and SpacePorts allows it. They're pretty good if you can deal without features on the same server as your page :p.

Kathy...
What are you thinking?

"yes, I guess the hosts all have that simple web interface.

How could you believe web interface is faster and more reliable than ftp? NO WAY.... :)

I'll have a web competition with you, and we can invite everyone into a chat room and then compete and see who wins in the fastest upload... ;)

hee, hee...
