Hey,
It's my sister's birthday in 3 weeks and I want to get her.
She always complains I never let her use the pc and she wanted a video game system.
I have 5 choises:
PSOne
N64
DreamCast
PS2
xBox
Wich one would you suggest for an 8yr old girl?
The psone is nice looking, but the graphics are kindda not good.
n64 has nicer graphics, but its a little on the old side. the dreamcast is a little newer, but it didnt sell really well and hasnt many games. Ps2 and xBox are kinnda the best, but they cost $$$$$$$ and I don't have lots of $ to spend.
Also, what is the% that Amazon associates make?
Maybe I'd buy it from myself to save some $ :biggrin2: (is this ok?)
Thanks
Daniel

Probably n64 so she can waste her time playing goldeneye. :biggrin2:

I think go for a newer system. N64 is fun, but it's old. But, newer systems cost money. I would suggest a GameCube, cause Nintendo makes cute little kid games, whereas I don't think your 8 year old sister should be playing GTA. So, why wasn't GameCube listed?
But ya, I guess an N64 is okay. You can get it for cheap, and lots of games second hand.

Well, since xbox's are dirt cheap now you might as well consider one...
I've seen them as low as $99 recently.

I'd have to be able to play something on it too.
I wont spend 4 hours playing that luigi mansion or something game wathing all those cute little stuff, lol. Plus gamecube is 190$US for the system. thats 300$ cdn, too much...
I was thinking of a Dreamcast with sonic adventures for my sis and some racing game for me. The gfx is not bad at all and the games are ok. And it's very cheap. What do you think?

I mean his sister. I didn't get anything expensive like that when I turned 8.

expensive???
PSone + 2 controlers + 2 games = about 100$ Cdn
N64 + 2 controlers + 2 games = about 100$ Cdn
DreamCast + 2 controlers + 2 games = about 100$ Cdn
PS2 + 2 controlers + 2 games = about 300$ cdn
xbox + 2 controlers + 2 games = about 400$ cdn
I've chosed the DreamCast from the list above.
Cheap, good and can be used to surf online + online games.
100$ for a bd gift, that's not soo expensive, is it?

I got a Gameboy when I was 5
Got a Sega Saturn when I was 6
Got a PS1 when I was 8
And what do you mean you want to get her?
Anyway Xbox or Gamecube. Those two are the newest (and the best).

They haven't sold them down here since they were discontinued.

Dreamcast is damn old and childish, but maybe for a young girl, it might suit her?
I would prefer Sega Saturn over Dreamcast and PS1

Not at any major retailer.

You can buy them at Cash Converters (DreamCast) for $60. Actually, probably an N64 or PSone could be purchased pretty cheap second hand.

I can't imagine spending even 100 dollars on my sister. Hell, I rarely spend that on myself.

Umm... The last time I checked, the GameCube was cheaper than both the XBox and the PS2. I would suggest that as there are both games for older and younger players on that system.

Honestly (as a teacher of this age group), I'd get her a book. My suggestions for this are:
Charlotte's Web by E.B. White
Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein
Etc...

That was kinda my point, except your's promotes a lot more education than mine...but yes, Shel Silverstein is the way to go.

Shel is a tad bit advanced in some ways for an 8 year old to read on their own, but she'll grow into it or if someone reads it with/to her, it is fine.

I'm sure Wotjek could read it to her though, as part of the gift. That's a nice thought...I think I'm going to cry :D

Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel SilversteinAh, yes. Reminds me of my 2nd-4th grade years of school. Our teacher bringing us down to the school library every two weeks. We'd all try to be the first to get the book (they had like 6 copies of it though). I must've read that book from cover to cover at least 25 times. The good ol' days...

Those poems really stick with you... I haven't read the book in some 6 or 7 years yet I feel as though I could recite half of the book...
My beard grows down to my toes,
I never wears no clothes,
I wraps my hair
Around my bare,
And down the road I goes.

I was lookig for some illegally posted poems for those who hadn't read it, and could only find this so far, but it is a good one, happens to be from Where the Sidewalk Ends

Expensive toys....
Only the system+1 controler for this price.
Add controller + 2 games and you've just added another 200$
