I just checked my e-mail and found this..

"Today, Snowhite was turning 18. The 7 Dwarfs always where very educated and
polite with Snowhite. When they go out work at mornign, they promissed a
*huge* surprise. Snowhite was anxious. Suddlently, the door open, and the Seven
Dwarfs enter..."

and it has a file attached called "midgets.scr"

I scanned the file with Norton AntiVirus and it turns out that it's a virus! This is the first ever virus that has been e-mailed to me!

The return address is "haha@sexyfun.com" (i'm sure that's fake), but the IP address of the person who sent it is (window-d211.sierra.net [207.135.226.211]

Oh well, it was cool to get a virus for once

Yeah thats the virus i got too.Known as Hybris. pretty well all it does is spawn. If you open the email it will send a copy of itself to everyone you email from the time you open it. it has the ability to download plugins for itself. It can and will infect zips. more info can be found at http://www.sexyfun.net (im serious). Only norton seems to be able to detect it. it infects only win 32 systems and is semi-polymorphic. It targets WSOCK32.DLL It intercepts Windows function that establish a network connection, including Internet. The worm intercepts data that is sent and received, and scans it for email addresses. When addressis detected, the worm waits for some time and then sends an infected message to it.

Affects DOS EXE and Windows PE EXE files. The worm affects them so that they become worm droppers. When run, they drop worm's EXE file to TEMP directory and execute it.

so thats that worm in a nutshell ;)

If you opened the email you will want to scan your PC for viruses. Rather then go through the process I'll just send you to C|Net. :)

It might be nice to use a web based scanner and once it removes the virus then you install a real virus scanner like Norton. Just remember that if you open a file with a virus it won't pop up telling you that it was a virus you just opened. :) Most now act like a real program (trojan) or they simply won't open anything and you'll think that it didn't work.

Never open attachments unless you were expecting it and can trust the source. Expecting it is the largest one because now that these worms send the email from your own address it looks like it came from a trusted source to those that receive it..

Simple solution - stop opening unknown files. :)

The only stuff I ever get are those f*cking annoying chain letters that claim you will die in 10 seconds if you don't foward to 100 people right away or you'll become gay (or lesbian) if you delete the mail. I deleted it... oops! So I guess I'm gay, eh? ;)

You tell me.

At least I don't get anymore now.... now there's just endless spam pouring in. :( I can't decide which I hate more - the chain letters or spam.

When I'm in computer class at school and I'm finished all my assignments, I spend all my time registering new email addresses. Could this be a lack of a life or something even more deep?

At my Yahoo! account and cybermail.net that's where I get th e most spam + advertisements. I haven't received a chain letter for a long time.. almost 3, 4 years now? Anyway. I have two accounts I use frequently, one for personal, the other for college stuff (oh yeah I get my "word of the day too.." todays word of the day was..umm... lol I don't remember it was something stupid that nobody EVER uses so I deleted it) and those personal accounts hardly EVER get advertisement/spam except for my occasional required advertisement email to keep my box free :)

Hey, guess what? I recieved the "virus" too!

I'm guessing it's the same one? It's sent from "Hahaha" or "Ahaha", can't remember, and the subject goes "Snow White and the Seven Drawfs" with an attatchment. 31K. I didn't open it, though, deleted it.

My first ever virus! Boy am I proud... :p
