Porn-Banner is standard but you can ask to change it to non-Erotik.
I had the same probs with cuteftp and it helped to activate passive mode.

I just registered with this host, it is incredibly fast, which is rare to fins in a php/mysql host. And if you want to have a site directed towards children like I do, the administrator will allow you to place an alternate, non-porn banner. I haven't tried connecting with a standard ftp client yet, however the web-ftp software there works well.
