whats the diff between these? what does each one be used for
isnt jpg, is for pictures and high quality web gfx?
gif is for simple pictues/ animations?
png is ????

JPG is best for photographic images...
GIF is best for small graphics with only a few colors (256 color max but with that many colors png is better)...
PNG is better than GIF under most circumstances, though Netscape has problems with transparent png's... Other than that all browsers support it...

Not true about all browsers support png - unless your definition of all browsers is IE 5, Netscape 6, and Opera 5 - older browsers versions don't support png files. I still get significant traffic from NS 4 and IE 4.

NS4 and IE 4 both support PNG (though NS4 doesn't support transparent PNG's unless you have the QuickTime plugin installed).
