View Full Version : Free Prohosting Cuts Services

Probably in a lame attempt to get their free members to upgrade to their pay services, Prohosting has cut free members' features. They used to offer 50 mb storage, unmetered transfer, and custom CGI access, but they now offer only 20 mb storage, 1 gb monthly transfer (gosh, this sounds a lot like the cheapo backstabbing by Lycos), and I'm not sure if they even allow custom CGI access anymore. Stick a fork in free Prohosting, they're done!

They looked good but I could never sign up.
I always got an error so I didn't now how they were.

Hmm...they don't say anything about cgi so free accounts don't have cgi. Only if you pay 4.95$.

well...damn:rolleyes:

I wonder if this is gonna effect current members or just new ones?

I still have an old, old account there that still has php and no ads... plus perl and everything else...

Or perhaps they are simply cutting losses by limiting the sludge.. You know...the kind of people who want everything for nothing? No need for anyone to get offended, unless you are part of the sludge...heh

And you are complaining about this because? Why not ask them to give you a million dollars for free and register a domain for you for free? Let's just give the world to you.

I'm not complaining, I'm just stating the facts (well, except for that "lame attempt to get their members to upgrade to pay," but that's the truth -- it's hard for even pay hosts to make money since there's already way too many of them). I've never even used free Prohosting. Also, if the free Prohosting really thought of their free members as leeches like you say we are, then why did they even give the 50 mb webspace and unmetered transfer to them in the first place!? It is not nice for a company to give one thing, then take it back! Like I said, it's nothing but a lame and cheap attempt to get their free members to upgrade to their pay services because they're just trying to outdo all the other 10,000+ pay hosts on the internet.

I agree. I had an account hosted with them for six months and they deleted it last night without notice. I was not hosting a board and was not taking up a large amount of room. I was running a weblog which was of a substantial amount of sentimental value to me, and I always showed ads. Still they deleted me, and I wish I had made a backup.
Their service is deteriorating. I'm beginning to fear for the paid users.
IF YOU ARE USING PROHOSTING, BACK UP YOUR FILES!

It may not be a nice thing to do, but it happens. I havent read theor terms, but most likely they have a section that covers this very issue.....here's a copy of our section in our terms that pertain to it. Most likely, theirs is similar..

If you're using any free host, you should always back up your files. Free host user survival rule #1: DON'T TRUST ANYBODY!
