I need a good host for yabbforum. I tried free host like lycos but it don't wanna work. I installed vb and phpbb on lycos without a problem but now um havin problems tryin' to get yabbforum workin'. So i just wanna know what other free could i install it on? I really want this forum because it has good premodded hacks and mainly because you don't have to have mysql.

Here's all the requirements for the forum:

System requirements to install YaBB

A web hosting account
Perl 5 (or higher) installed on the server your web account is on
CGI.pm v2.4+ and Socket.pm modules installed on the server your web account is on
At least 1 MB of diskspace on your webspace account; over 3 MB recommended
Sendmail (for Linux/Unix) or SMTP (for Windows/NT or Linux/Unix); optional, but recommended

Isn't it quite apparent why YaBB wouldn't work on Lycos, hehe? It's a Perl board, while Lycos only supports PHP and MySQL (which are required for phpBB and vB). :D How did you get a legal copy of vB to test anyway? ;)

Anyway, I would just recmomend using a remotely hosted YaBB board, as almost all hosts would kick you off for using one (it's a big resource hog). There are tons of these, like www.boardnation.com www.suddenlaunch.com www.hyperboards.com www.proboards.com www.xsorbit.com , etc.

However, if you insist, you can try your YaBB board with the hosts listed in the HostFAQ (of which I most recommend Netfirms). :)

Ok, thanks. I think i had problems with netfirms also but imma try to install it on there again. But the only the thing about netfirms is it only has 1gb of bandwidth a month, but it's a very reliable host. I don't want an remotely host board because i want to be able to use hacks and stuff like dat. I'll check out those free host in the faq also.

Thanks again for the help. :)

another one is web1000
another one is web1000, comes with a pre-installed yabbe board
only thing they disable sendmail other than that u can customize as you wish

also free-pro-host works with yabbe

Why are you trying to use Yabb when YabbSE (www.yabb.info) is available? The former runs off perl and will eat your b/w for lunch, while the latter runs off php/mysql and uses a fraction of the resources, hence it's much faster and your host will be less likely to hate/ban you. YabbSE can do everything Yabb can; the only real diff is there's not as many hacks for it b/c it hasn't been out as long as the original. And I know FOR SURE that if you install it on tripod.lycos.uk or tripod.lycos.fr it will magically suppress the ads; that's what I've done. phpbb2 also does that I hear FYI. Also, web1000 blocks a lot of foreign accesses even though they say they don't so steer clear of them. Hope that's helpful.

Web1000 (web1000.com) sucks big time. They will delete your site and replace it with Porn 404 ads.......Do not even THINK about using them.

Free Pro Hosting(www.free.prohosting.com) has cut down their features to 20mb, 1 gig transfer, and no more Perl (CGI). So they are kind of out of the question.

If you can afford vB, then you can afford hosting.

Besides, YaBB blows big time. Why didn't you stick with phpBB or vB?
