View Full Version : Need a RELIABLE Host

Here is ideally what I am looking for, however, I will accept offers that are reasonably close.
- Multiple Domains ( I need to host at least 3 multiple domains and I have 4 other domains i need to point. Two to domain1 and Two to domain2. Domain3 has no other domains pointing to it)
I cannot negotiate this. I have my domains spread out over several hosts. One host is was pretty good, but their customer servers response times are getting slower and I would like to move all of my domains to one host and have one bill )
- 200MB+ of space
- 10 GB+ Transfer/ Month
- CGI Bin
- SSL ( As I will soon be hosting an ecommerce site )
- SSH
- Preferably CPanel Control Panel
- 5+ DB's
- 10+ emails
- 5+ subdomains
- 5+ ftp accounts
- ability to upgrade to a higher plan in the future if necessary
- Quick (less than 24 hours), non-automated responses to my help requests at least letting me know my request is being worked on.
I am looking to spend no more than $10/month, but would be willing to spend a few dollars more for an established host. I am not really interested in anyone who hasn't been in business for less than 6-9 months . I have tried alot of newer hosts and have found that their service quickly drops off after they start to pick up more customers.
Any suggestions, offers or personal experiences with current hosts are greatly welcomed.
Thanks

Please visit host24.com/options.htm - we'll be able to meet your requirements with our Business Class option, although we only make use of the Ensim control panel.
Here is a summary of our best match (Business Class option, $25/month):
200MB+ of space -> 300MB
10 GB+ / Month -> 10GB
CGI Bin -> yes
SSL -> yes (self signed cert.)
SSH -> yes
Preferably CPanel -> Ensim
5+ DB's -> yes (1/domain)
10+ emails -> yes, 10/domain (50 in total)
5+ subdomains -> absolutely!
5+ ftp accounts -> yes, number of users = email accounts
ability to upgrade to a higher plan in the future if necessary -> no problem, can be done on the fly
Quick (less than 24 hours), non-automated responses to my help requests at least letting me know my request is being worked on. -> 100%
And we've been around since Feb '99!

I would recommend www.perfecthost.net
Their Level 3 plan, which costs $9.95 a month or $99.95 a year, offers:
300 MB space
10 GB transfer
CGI-bin
SSL
SSH (you must send them a photo ID for security reasons)
CPanel
Unlimited MySQL databases
Unlimited e-mail addresses
Unlimited subdomains
Unlimited FTP accounts
ability to upgrade your plans (I mean, which host wouldn't offer this? :D)
And I'm almost positive that the support is fast.
These guys have also been around for quite a while now, and their service has only improved. I know this host from Webmaster-Talk, and I have heard lots of great things about them (plus the owner of this host is very friendly). However, I have never tried them myself, so I can't really "recommend" them.

perfecthost looks really good, aside from the fact that I didnt' notice anything about multiple domains, which is really my biggest requirement. Maybe I can work something out with them though. As for 9cy, I know I am gonna need a few databases, and they only offer 1 with the $10 plan.
Thanks for the offers guys, keep em comin! :)

You can email support(@)worldzonepro.com. Our office may work out a deal with you. Though I'm not sure we could do it for $10. Maybe $20, or maybe even $15.
If you can do $20, I know we could do 10gig/200 meg. Plus all other options are open. Such as how many domains you want allowed on the account, pops, databases, etc. We have a huge list of available options. Much more than most. We've been around a long time also..
By the way, we use Hsphere, not Cpanel. Hsphere has a ton of more options and control for you. Every option is upgradable, you dont have to upgrade the whole plan.

HSphere doesn't offer multi-domain hosting, right?

well if you knew the facts this domain was registered recently. but we have been in business more than 6 months. We just redeveloped our business plan and pricing structure, developed a new site and prices. so since this domain was recently registered that means we havent been in business longer than 6 months???? so instead of editing my post why do you look into the facts first.

I'd recommened RackShack.net
ok, they are dedicated servers, and they do charge $100 per month. But believe me moving server is a bloody hassle. And if you think your site will grow. Then I would recommend a dedicated server from RackShack (or some other company I don't know about).
I joined RackShack over a year ago, and they have improved a lot. Their uptime since last Christmas has been almost perfect.

I can give you a custom plan with LoadedWeb hosting:
- 200MB disk

- CGI/SSH/CPanel
- SSL (provided you are supplying your own SSL certificate)
- 5 MySQL DB (more can be added)

- as many subdomains as you need for your site
I can give it to you for $13/month or $11/month prepaid annually.
Private message me if interested.

It has "true" multi-domain support.
I'm not a big fan of control panels, but people demand them. Hsphere blows away Cpanel, Ensim, and Plesk. You could combine those, and they wouldnt hit anywhere close to what Hsphere offers. Hsphere is the only one out there that allows so much control that people get lost in it, and it confuses them. It takes some time to learn it.
You can look at the facts. Cpanel, Plesk, and Ensim have lost a whole lot of hosts to Hsphere.....but rarely has Hsphere lost a host to another control panel. That's how good it is.

Actually, I have a few friends that have found some serious security leeks in hsphere recently. Apparently psoft new about them, but did nothing to fix or notify their users. I really don't think you can compare cpanel and hsphere mate, they are really 2 different types of products.. control panels yes, but each are pretty much meant to do different things. I personally like cpanel for its 1. frequent updates 2. security patches 3. software updates ( almost before the software is even released sometimes it seems ) and 4. the excellent support. I think it ultimately comes down to what the end user wants that equates to what control panel best suits their needs.

You know what. I know the real security issues in both of them. I know which is better, and which is really more secure. But I wont argue the point. The more hosts that go with, and stick with Cpanel, the better off I am in my business using Hsphere. Only a host that has used both could tell you which is better...I have used both in our hosting.
Any host that uses Hsphere and has never used Cpanel doesnt have the experience to correctly comment on Cpanel other than rumors. Same the other way around. A host that has only used Cpanel and never Hsphere in a live environment doesnt have the experience to talk about Hsphere. I have used both. I know which is better. Ease of use...Cpanel may be better...but that's the only advantage it has.

We had a brief look at H-Sphere as it was being introduced to a network that we were in the process of leaving, last January or thereabouts. Personally, I doubt it would appeal to the type of client we seem to attract. Granted the provider was trying to come to grips with it at the same time, but I was not impressed with it at all.
Our main control panel experiences have been:
Donhost: We still have a reseller account there (18 months+) as we have a few hundred clients who refuse to let us move on. Donhost offers a rock solid service with a teriffic control panel. Unfortunately that control panel is not available for provate use. Client Feedback? No problems.
Cobalt: A bit clunky. Needs to be on a decent network. We have Cobalts at Tera-Byte and Sagonet, so that's not a problem. Client feedback? Most of our initial feedback/testimonials are by Cobalt clients. Most had no problems with it all.
Cpanel: We grabbed a MCHost reseller account because of a few requests for Cpanel, and in particular it's built in Interchange plus a few other automated features. We lost clients, due to problems with both MCHost and Cpanel. MCHost might have improved, I don't know because we got rid of the account. Cpanel better have improved because we are starting up on it again. But if the problems with control panel access being disabled due to centrally distributed problems from its maker, we'll get rid of it again. Client Feedback (so far)? A few refunds and a few disappointed clients (some who had been with us for a year).
WHC: Buggy and insecure. I'm not sure how many issues the latest version has addressed, but we'd never touch it again. Client Feedback? "Someone has hacked my site" "Plese fix our Frontpage Extensions" "I might learn PHP"
H-Sphere: Too short a time to have formed a solid opinion. But it was messy, and not very intuitive for the end user. It is the end user that counts, because what makes sense to us is double Dutch to say, a real estate agent. Client Feedback? Those that wanted to stay with us moved to Plesk. The rest of our Windows clients were sold to a network who runs WHC.
Ensim: A brief look. Again not something I believe our typical client would go in for. No clients.
Plesk (2.5 and 5): Without a doubt in my mind, the absolute best control panel on the market today. Client Feedback? Plenty of smiles.
Plus a few other lesser know, private control panels that have been alright, but nothing spectacular.
Cheers
Gary

:topic: Can we PLEASE get this back on topic which is reliable hosts not reliable control panels. :angry2:
NexDog

Yea, what was the topic again?
One quick dig though - a reliable control panel equals a reliable host. I'm in with Gary, Plesk rocks. Bland and lifeless yet solid and secure and pretty intuitive. If you want eye candy, go CPanel, want so many options that you spend more time in the CP than working on your sites - H-Sphere. What something simple, secure, solid and a few more S's, PLESK.
Sorry Jan - can we get back on topic now please?
