I haven't heard of it, although some type of prepaid card that could be used for online transactions would be a good idea, for those who don't have, or don't wish to use, a real credit card.

I guess you are talking about a safty feature of American Express. Read details at:
http://www26.americanexpress.com/privatepayments/info_page.jsp

You are able to use that with any host that accepts payments with American Express Credit Card (which should be plenty).

If you don't want to use a credit card, you could use a debit card. So you just can spend as much as you have got on your checking account. (e.g. visa debit card, which can be used as credit card). [in the States; Europe doesn't offer that]

the prepaid AMEX card can be found at: http:;//www.cobaltcard.com

You can add funds using your savings or checking account right online...

Just about any place that accepts American Express will accept this... just as long as you have that amount of funds in your account.

I've bought stuff using it, hosting, domain registration, a new vBulletin license... everything... :)
