Including myself. I'm in the school IT room and all these girls are looking at something on Google, in hysterics, going "urgh" and "ewww"! They can't be looking at porn, cos it would be filtered...
Scary.

Mullin Well, unless you two go to the same school, you can't say that.

Not every school uses the same filtering software.... my school uses Bess (http://www.n2h2.com/products/bess_home.php) and I can't stand it.

Ah, Bess. I had Bess when I was in school. Do they still have that damn dog for a mascot?

Anywho, to me it sounds like these girls who make nothing but audible noises couldn't be smart enough to break through a school filter anyway. One can only wonder.

There isnt any filtering software at my school. But one thing: the teacher can see all the monitors except maybe 5 from her desk.

OK, I take back my last statement, they have a NetWare server.

Our school has double protection.

Since we have a T1, we have to go thruh the CSDM proxy.
( csdm = montreal school board ) Wich has every 'bad' site blocked.

And we also have DeepFreeze installed.
DeepFreeze works like this:
everytime you boot the PC, the HD is re-set to a pre-made image.
So in other words, you cant save anything on the disk.
You'r doing a project? The pc crashes? No problem, just redo the whole project!

I'll bet you re-think how you surf the net at school now, won't you?

Rofl, my school had most bad words blocked. It was damn funny when me and a few friends set the homepage of every computer to goatse.cx (don't go there). They had manually set them all back.

I don't know what our school uses but I think it's RM Protect or something.. Anyway... people go through google image search and bring up porn pictures. My friend has over 600 roms in his home directory.

some of the stuff that my high school blocked was really annoying.

I was doing a research essay on Hitler, and almost every site pertaining to Mein Kampf was blocked.

My teacher was also a raging feminist. When she saw the red "BLOCKED" screen from across the library she immideately assumed i was looking at porn. Who looks at porn in the library anyways.

stupid feminists.

Our school blocks www.google.com but not www.google.co.uk and all the others!

We can't get on www.nokia.com
Altavista is blocked.

They keylog all our actions.

BUT some kid got expelled last year for hacking the schools network, and made loadsa accounts unlimited, 4 out of 10 accounts are unlimited.

same for us as well, we also have some outgoing connections blocked so we can't upload files to websites and log on to forums

Hacking my schools server would be so easy someone could have the network down in 10 seconds.

we have full access to every drive around school.

We can either use network neighbourhood to get around users numbers (ICT Suite only) open network neighbourhood and click on all users (we have teachers accounts, every pupils and admins)

or open explorer on any computer and click on a drive (eg F:\ contains all the network settings, im dying to edit the background image in that for the network)

F:\ also lets us install any programs on the network (windows, office etc)
I could keep going but i won't!

I could probably live with my school's proxy, but it is just so horribly innacurate.

Bess probably blocks over 75% of the internet and most of the time for no apparent reason...

Yesterday, I was looking up some info about my friends laptop. Oh, wait, "laptop" is not a permissable word. If a page contains "laptop", then it must be "pornography"...

Then I go to look up somthing about WWI.... "This page is blocked becasue of: violence."

And also, I'll have to admit, the dumbest thing I've ever seen was when one of those x10 ads was blocked because of "nudity and sexual content".

Oh yeah, Yahoo! Games is blocked because of "Adult content"...

Anywho, I think I've gotten my point across about how much Bess sucks... I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

You don't need to get your point across to me. I know all about Bess. It is the dumbest thing in the world.

My school recommends google.com, and I don't think it uses any real filtering software.....it's on a 128k ISDN line btw.

The 8th grade computer lab is more security aware than the 7th grade lab. In the 8th grade lab, right-click on the start menu is blocked, and if you get past that then Explorer is grayed out ,as well as everything else on the right-click menu. Display Properties are blocked. There's no access to run, the control panel, etc...
But one thing that makes it the most insecure network in town: It's using Windows. I mean, access to C:\ is disabled, but whatever software they use isn't very good. That's all I'll say ;)

The 7th grade lab is VERY insecure, they dont have ANYTHING blocked. 'nuff said.

Press F3 on the desktop (of what i nkow this works on win95 and win98) and this brings up "find files or folders". search for *.cpl and run one of those files it returns.

Works in our school apart from one of the files. (can't remember which)

//Adds that to my list of reasons not to use Windows\\

I never knew it was so easy to break Windows security (sure I knew it was easy, but not THIS easy).

Watch us get warned for talking about this

[add]
Hehe, the F3 shortcut works on XP too :p
