Which one should I buy?
19" CRT or 15" LCD?

Definately the 19" CRT. More screen real estate is better.

LCD's usually have low refresh rates...atleast that's what I heard.

Will it spoil the eyes?
dell said the 17" crt is 1024x768x85hz and the 15" lcd is 1024x768x60hz.
btw if i get the 19" crt, i can get an extra bay for dvd and cd-rw and it's still cheaper than the 15" lcd with only cdrw

Get CRT, especially if you want to play high-octane games such as FPS games. Whether it will spoil the eyes, I doesn't think so, because after all LCD is flicker-free. But bigger screen is always better, you'll never regret it.

If you use the CRT at >80Mhz refresh rate, I don't think so.
More refresh rate = less eye strains.
Prologed use at 60Mhz is not recommended.

BTW its hz not mhz. 1mhz will be too fast to spoil the eyes probably:p

I'm going to need a new monitor then!
1600*1400 on 60hz...

Well I'm on a 17" CRT and it's fine...I do get new lens for my glasses every 6 months though. :p

Whats the difference between optimal resolution and maximum resolution for monitors?
Damn idiotic people at dell refuse to tell me the maximum.

If you really want to know the max resolution for Dell monitors, check Sony's website.
Trenz, your young, and at that age, you do often chance glasses.

Dell doesn't just use Sony monitors, so that wouldn't really do much good...
Just read on their site... they have all of the info...

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/category.asp?customer_id=19&category_id=4171 Can you help me find it on the dell singapore website? that one would probably be more accurate.
and no, i don't have the $$ to go for a flat crt.
[edit= I found the place to go but they don't show the damn maximum resolution, but i found this: Their virtually flat aperture grille picture tubes, developed by Sony® for its Trinitron® monitors, lower image distortion, reflection and glare, reducing eyestrain and fatigue and helping to increase productivity.]
Is the maximum resolution always higher than the optimal resolution? What is the typical maximum resolution of 19" CRT monitor?
And is the 59.6lbs (25.8kg) worth carrying?

The optimal resolution I assume refers to the highest resolution the monitor can achieve in at least 16 bit colour with at least a 75 MHz refresh rate. The MAXIMUM resolution of my monitor is 1280x1024, but it can only reach that with 60 MHz refresh rate, which sucks. So, I run in 1024x768 with an 85 MHz refresh rate.
And I didn't used to have glasses, but when I started spending lots of time on the computer, I suddenly did need glasses. But my eye doctor doesn't think it's from the computer, it's just genetic (everyone in my family wears glasses now).

So the MAXIMUM is probably much higher than the optimal resolution?

I would think it would be obvious.

He's talking BS. If you get a monitor with a maximum resolution of 1024*768, then your living in the past.
