Any other suggestions?

Some people say they have been having problems with Tripod the last few weeks. Out of the two you mentioned, I'd go for 50megs

Yes tripod is better, up until recently when they have been having problems. They even give you access to cgi-the kind that doesn't work. heh

Thank you all, but please give more info.

I have used a lot of free web space providers (geo, prohosting, virtual ave, and others)

But now I have to choose between Tripod and 50megs. Only these 2, match my criteria.

(subdomain, >=50 MB, ftp, US)

I don't know anything about them.

Does anyone know both of them?
I only have used 50megs for 1 month.

I don't know anything else about Tripod except that the cgi is not so good.

Are there downtimes?
What would you suggest?

Freewebsites.com gives 50megs, a subdomain, FTP and alot of other cool features like SSI. Also a list of choice for a subdomain.

Personally, I think Tripod is a much better host. You could also try http://www.hypermart.net but I don't think they offer a subdomain. You can get a free redirection service to your domain with http://www---------- or any other redirection service though.

Are subdomains that important? And why would you need 50MB+?

Thanks again,

to LeX: Yes they are. I need 50+Megs because this site is huge. All for HTML pages.

to Coolin: Hypermart is for business sites, (has subdomain) they offer virtualave.net(excellent ,+cgi-bin) but this is banned from AV.

nickline.

Nickline: I have never seen a business site on Hypermart (just personal sites), so don't worry, they don't delete them.

Yeah, as long as you display their banner and you're not an illegal site, Hypermart won't care.

Holy cats, how many HTML pages do you have!? You must have about 10,000 of them!

He probably has a few images in there too. Or a lot of images in that case.

Dont know the whole story but I heard Tripod was deleting sites? Maybe it was just an isolated incident or something.

I'll say 50meg 'coz MANY of my friends said their sites got deleted 'coz tripod says they are violating their terms of usage, then re-reply and said they are only clearing sites that they THINK have the potential to violate their terms... Come to think of it, not secure.

Thank you all,

I have made my decision to host it at 50megs because it works fine for 1 month for me. And Tripod has some problems, as some of you say.

About the site: It's all about online books. I have collected about 20.000 online books (URL's & descriptions) for all possible subjects. And because every book will have it's page 20.000x3k size (at least)=60megs. I'll cut down some content to keep it lower than 50megs.
Thanks again,
nickline
