Is there a good method to eliminate or at least reduce the white edges on a transparent gif in photoshop? Is it painfully obvious, or is there some sort of trick that I can use to do this?

I don't get it... why would you have any color edges on a transparent gif?

Do you mean those jaggy edges?

If you want your transparent images to look good, you can use that "Save for Web..." option. It allows you to select the color you want to go around the edges of your image - "Matte."

For example, if the background color of your page is #222222, you can set the Matte to #222222 [example (http://forums.nuclearbox.com/ranks/thailand-army-12.gif)].

I don't think it does much help, though. :p

Have you used the selection tool and had antialiasing on or something else that would make the edge unsharp?

One look at the splash page I'm making will show just how bad it is.

How did you save your images?

OK. Open up the image, zoom in, and use the little selection tool to remove the edges. It can be tedious, but it'll work.

My problem is, I have an ancient version of Photoshop, but I'm working on upgrading, so hopefully I can take care of this little doozy.

Yes, it's Version 5.0. It hurts.

Before you save your image, are those white edges already there?
There is still a way you can use to get rid of that pretty easily.
